Always a pleasure exploring the courthouse and courthouse square. Very photogenic building in all seasons.

Didn't have the opportunity to go inside but got a few pictures during dusk. Very grand and well maintained site in the heart of the square.

It appears that this building was one of the inspirations for the building featured in the Back to The Future movie series.
The architectural history is fascinating and the building features many fascinating displays.
Well worth a visit.

I had heard that the county courthouse in Carthage was noteworthy, and I made a point of visiting the town square, though it was a Saturday and so the courthouse was closed. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant and rewarding visit. The building of grey limestone is quite imposing and ornate -- they don't build them like that anymore! Well worth the view, and at 9:30 AM, there was plenty of parking (free) and it was possible to take a quiet walk around the square as the weekend farmer's market was setting up on the north side of the courthouse grounds. I look forward to the chance to visit again during a weekday when it'd be possible to see the interior that so many others have spoken highly of.
By the way, Carthage has an excellent printed Official Visitor's Guide that covers this and other sights around town.
