This is a working dairy farm with about 150 head of cattle. The farmhouse is a very traditional farm building with thick stone walls, although it has been extended, mainly to accommodate the swimming pool and spa.

The decoration is quite heavy and gives a distinctly old-fashioned feel to the rooms.

Valerie is very welcoming and the breakfasts, whilst not being the most generous we have experienced, were very well cooked. Valerie is also very willing to share her recommendations on places to visit and eat, which is very useful.

There are just 4 B&B rooms, each is slightly different, we stayed in Claire's room, which seemed to be the smallest, we had the bed made up as a super-king size (the 2 3ft beds pushed together) and there wasn't a lot of floor space remaining. The en-suite was very smart, with a power shower in a cubicle and the walls and floor fully tiled. Generally the whole place was kept clean, although there were some cobwebs in the bedroom and bathroom which weren't removed for the whole week that we stayed there.

It was very pleasant to have access to a small (shared) fridge and also to have a full-sized kettle in the room, however the tea and coffee supplies in the room were a little hit-and-miss, some days we had 3 coffee sachets and other days 5 or 6, also for some reason only 1 hot chocolate sachet was ever put out, so only one of us could have that drink each day! The number of milk portions was also a bit of a lottery! Bizarrely there was only one flannel and 1 tiny piece of soap in the bathroom, although there was very nice soap, shower gel and body lotion from a local supplier.

We didn't try the swimming pool etc. as it was quite frankly too much trouble, the door from the main house into the pool area is permanently locked so to access these facilities one has to go out through the front door, walk round to side door and enter that way, once inside the pool cover has to be wound back before you can swim, and then wound over the pool once you have finished, apparently this is quite hard work.

The farm is quite a long way from anywhere, the nearest pub (which we didn't fancy) is about a 10 minute drive away and the coast (Crackington Haven) is about 20 minutes away, all along very narrow winding roads. This is not the type of place where you can arrive and then not use the car.

Overall this is a very good place to stay, but although it is rated 5 star gold, we are not sure that it is actually any better than other properties in the farmstay brochure which we have stayed at but are rated as 4 star.

We have just returned from our stay at Wheatley Farm B&B. Everything was just as described on the website and Valerie was a very warm, friendly hostess. She helped us decide where to go to eat, and where to visit. Her recommendation for the Local butcher was taken up on our way home so we have some meals planned to remind us of our stay in Cornwall. Having been to the area before, we wanted a nice relaxing week, which we certainly had. The flexibility to return to the farm anytime was great and suited us. Breakfast was first class, especially the home made marmalade. A pity we have to drive so far from home to enjoy this lovely B&B. Highly recommended. Valerie is far too young to have run this establishment as long as she said she had! It is a credit to her.

Valerie or "Ying Yang" as she is apparently sometimes known, will give you a welcoming reception at this lovely family run dairy farm. I stayed in Claire's room a large twin bed with Laura Ashley furnishings and a large private shower room with Aqualisa shower. The location is in a country lane but well within striking distance of Bude and Widemouth which has a great beach which doesn't get too busy even in good weather. Valerie knows all the best places to go locally and presented a cream tea on arrival and lovely large cooked breakfasts. Loved it so much I wanted to stay another night but they were fully booked. If you want a real taste of cornish hospitality in a location far from the madding crowds, this is the one for you.

This wonderful farmhouse steeped in history is the perfect location for a getaway of any length of stay. We stayed for two nights in the Wheatley room, clean & spacious with every facility we needed. But Val, our host was(is) the most friendly & genuine person you could ever wish to meet......& she cooks lovely poached eggs. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend others to visit.

Just got back from a 5 night stay at Wheatley Farm- absolutely fantastic accommodation, spotlessly clean and very spacious. Valerie was a wonderful host and a great help in recommending where we should visit every day. Breakfast was delicious and we never had to wait for our food. Coming from a working farm ourselves we loved the location and family atmosphere of the farm and the use of the pool and spa was an added bonus! We hope to be back soon!
