We had a quick cold spell descend but there were about 6 trucks under the pavillion---bought some fresh strawberries and green beans at a good price. There is also a spot off to the back in a gravel parking lot where there have been feral cats for a few years---take some leftovers for them if you can find it---

Nice city park near the commercial pier & marina with biking and walking trails. Pavilion area which shows you the frightening high water marks of the prior hurricanes. Good shaded areas for sitting as well.

I grew up in Gulfport, and knew this area, before it was officially dedicated as Jones Park. It was just a large area, adjacent to the small craft harbor. Normally, it was just a picnic area, though more folk used the beach, north of the jetty, at the turn to the original Gulfport Yacht Club (later several restaurants, and a Gulfport Recreation Department pavilion), than this area – except for the Fishing Rodeo, around July 04, when it was filled with tents, rides, booths, and the like.

On each visit, things seem to be changing, and for the better. On this February trip, we were in the Park twice (staying very near-by, at Almanett Hotel & Bistro), and passed it daily.

It appeared that the pavilion had been expanded, as had the playground, across the parking lot. After a daytime visit, we passed by, and noticed lighting, which we had not seen before. It seemed as though the pavilion, and then a similar area, had been lit, with pulsing lights, which created a bit of a show – so we returned during the evening, to watch this.

It also appeared that the marina areas have been improved, but maybe what we observed was just in a different area, or we missed the improvements earlier.

During our Winter trip, there were no events in the Park, but looking online, it seemed that the upcoming event schedule was rather full. We need to return, during the “season,” to sample the entertainment.

For nostalgic reasons, I would love to return around July 04. and the Fishing Rodeo.

Enjoyed a beautiful day on the gulf coast with a walk through Jones park and along the marina. Terribly disappointed that the public restrooms were closed off with yellow tape but no explanation as to why there are closed. Also disappointed that the fishing piers were still closed from storm damage sustained sometime. Kind of an eyesore for a beautiful area that seems to be geared towards getting more tourism!

Friend took me to enjoy the day, so we got to explore the craft shops and listen to free music for the day. Also, had various food vendors.
