I made a two-night reservation at the Gregers Inn to celebrate our anniversary this July. Our stay was a big disappointment. Main reason? No one was there to oversee the guests and their needs. Had I known that, I never would have booked the reservation. But just two days before our arrival the innkeeper sent us an email, advising they were going to be out of town when we arrived, but would be there our second night to finish up the payment. The room was clean and the property nice, but it was beastly hot outside, and not even a small fan was left in the room to move the hot air around (no air conditioning at the Inn). We were extremely uncomfortable for most of our first night there, unable to sleep because of the oppressive heat. And we had no way to contact the innkeeper, since no one was left in charge to make sure the guest were comfortable. We left in the morning, with a note on the table to let them know why. Of course, we still have to pay for two nights since their cancellation policy requires a 3-week advance notice. What we never expected was an innkeeper leaving their guests alone to fend for themselves, with barely a two-day advance notice. Even though they have my email and phone number, I have not received a phone call or email from them yet. Number one rule for people in the hospitality business? BE THERE TO GREET YOUR GUESTS and take care of their needs. If you cannot be there because of an emergency or something else that comes up, then you really need a back-up plan. Have someone there to take care of your guests. While I would love to give a positive review, this experience left me "hot under the collar!"

My husband and I stayed ther this weekend (Nov 4-6) from friday thru sunday at the Lake Superior Cabin. It's small but very cozy and has everything you need. The owners are very friendly and helpful. It's a great place to stay at any season!

My husband and I wanted an overnight stay to break up the drive up the shore to Thunder Bay. This quiet gem is near both Gooseberry and Split Rock State Parks. We stayed in the smallest room the Goooseberry. It was very small, but had everything you could need, fridge, microwave, dishes etc. The breakfast was so beautifully presented in a sunny room. The food was wonderful. The owners were professional and made sure we had everything we needed.

Room tip: If you are a bigger person or have difficulty getting up and sitting down, don't stay in the Gooseberry room. The stool is in a very tight area in the bathroom.
