I have to hand it to this place. They are trying to upgrade themselves, and provide a better product. They are painting, fixing up, and trying to change things in a positive way. But, they ought to tell people when they are. I guess it's not good for business because people might shy away from construction, but patrons really need to know that the smell of paint will be in the air, and that the indoor/outdoor pool is closed for repairs. It's OK. The paint didn't bother us that much, and we probably wouldn't have used the pool anyway. After all that, it was a very adequate hotel experience, especially for the price. We just stayed the one night, and it only cost us around $90, including tax! That's pretty rare these days.

So, about the room. I liked that we could park so close to our room, but the hotel made two mistakes rigth off the bat. For one, we booked this room a long time in advance, and specifically asked not to be on the ground floor. We don't like to hear the people stomping around above our heads. Nonetheless, we were put on the ground floor. I hate it when we book months in advance, and the place can't get it right. My wife also requested extra pillows, and we didn't get those, either. As it turns out, my wife was right about the bottom floor. Even though it was closer to the car, we did have to endure what sounded like jumping jacks coming from the room directly above us. We were not pleased.

The room did come with continental breakfast, and, as expected, it was pretty "ho-hum." They had the usual, except that other places usually have sausage and scrambled eggs. This place just had the biscuits and gravy in addition to the usual cold cereal, instant cereal, toast, and waffles. That's OK by us. We don't eat the eggs, sausage or biscuits and gravy anyway. To their plus, they did have almod milk, and they did have yogurt. The breakfast appeals mostly to Minnesota tastes, and is about what you'd expect.

The room was decent sized, but there was really nothing special about it. It was probably just what a person would expect to find in a town on the outskirts of a small, rural, Minnesota town like Red Wing. And, as I said, the price was great. It was perfectly satisfactory for what we needed it for, and that is a place to spend one night in.

Room Tip: Choose this place for an inexpensive stop over, but not an extended stay.

Our room had a Pioneer Cabin theme, and was fun to look at. However none of the 3 pioneer chairs had more than a thin foam pad and were not good to sit on. Room was short on outlets; bathroom was cramped.

The room smelled damp and musty. The tub was not cleaned after the first day and damp dirty wash cloths were left used in the tub. The staff was friendly at check in and check out. The price was high and the hotel was not worth the cost.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. There is NO elevator, so if you get a room on the 2nd floor, you will be taking the stairs with your luggage. The stairs and hallway were not vacuumed. The room (1 queen bed) was spacious and included a surprise sofa sleeper (not advertised/mentioned), 2 chairs and ottomans, coffee table and lamp tables as well as a dresser. Bathroom was adequate. Instead of small toiletries, there are dispensers on the wall, so you aren't sure of what brands they are. This hotel is located right next to a Perkins restaurant (24 hrs) which is very convenient. Indoor/outdoor pool was dirty with debris floating in it and the divider flaps were covered with mold/algae. Small fitness center didn't have usual equipment.
Road construction on Main Street in Red Wing makes it difficult to get to some places, not the hotels fault.

Room Tip: No elevator so if you are not able to go up stairs and carry suitcases make sure you reserve a 1st floor room.

It is true, we do not have an elevator. Our building is two story building. Please request a first floor room when making reservation. Our rooms do include a nice seating area for added comfort during your stay. Please come again.

The rooms was nice and clean and also large which was nice. Your are offered coupons for local attractions and restaurants upon check-in which was a nice touch. The only drawback was check-in took a while as nobody was available for around 10 minutes. Nice indoor/outdoor pool.

Room Tip: rooms against the hill will be a little quieter, the rooms up front have balconies or patios.
