Description: This started as a wine kaberet. However, they added a restaurant last year with a full menu. One side is a wine bar with an entertainment stage and the other side is a small restaurant that can be intimate and family oriented. Very unique and historic property in the heart of New Ulm, MN. It is a historic hotel that dates back to 1856. The 2nd floor is also an art and cultural center and the 3rd floor is being turned into artist suites. Very unique place for any city....

We came Friday and returned Saturday because we liked this place so much. First night Lost Walleye Orchestra was a delight. The next night The Skruffians from Minneapolis exceeded our expectations. We ate next door and then could listen from there and then wander over. The space is very intimate and pleasant. Usually we find live music too loud, crowded and a risky investment of time and money. But this was fabulous. We will watch the schedule and plan another visit soon, just to return to the Grand Kabaret.

We enjoyed our dinner here. The food was decent, the beer was cold, the service was attentive and the atmosphere was quaint. Its strongest suit is as a venue for live music - a really great set up!

Upon our visit to New Ulm, we wanted to break away from typical bar food and try the wood fired pizza and BBQ of Pepperboys across the street. The menu was modestly priced and offered a bevy of unique offerings. While the pizza's looked diverse and I easily could have settled upon trying the garden with sausage, I was also eyeing the beef brisket, the BBQ ribs or the cod fillets. Unfortunately, they do not have a working link to their menu at the moment. They have their own sauces for the menu items and there was a couple bottles of sauce at the table so I decided to try these and roll with a choice. The Vulcan was nicely spiced and gave off a good amount of heat but wasn't overly hot. The Rastou? was the mildest and while it wasn't quite as flavorful or hot as the Vulcan, it still had a unique tang to it. I paired this with my choices, a half slab oif ribs and stuffed mushroom appetizer. We ordered a couple of lift bridge beers and settled in to the booth while we listened to the entertainment faintly coming from the other side, which was packed btw. (when you walk into the entrance, you are faced with a choice of going left or right, there was a doorperson sitting at the left side. We were seated right away when we came into the restaurant at about 9:00pm but it was still moderatly busy) The waitress came around and apologized for the food taking so long and that our order should be out shortly. The ribs were good sized and came with a choice of two out of four side offerings. I got the wood fired veggies and wood fired potato's. The ribs were some of the tastiest I've had at a restaurant. They were advertised in the menu as having a good amount of meat to them and they were completely honest. Very moist, fall of the bone tender and tasty. I thought the sauce might overpower the meat, but it was a good tangy compliment. The potato's were done right, but were a little bland, as they were just wood fired - no seasonings. It would have been great if they came with some seasoned sour cream and chives, but I had to ask for a side of sour cream (which came at no charge but was forgotten by the waitress who had to be reminded) The side of sour cream was off, it just didn't taste like fresh sour cream, but I still used it. Wood fired veggies were good to but the highlight of the platter were the ribs. The appetizer of stuffed mushrooms were tasty and went down well. The ribs were a good deal at 13.99. The service was attentive enough and I would defininetly come back to try the brisket or wood fired pizza. The music from the other side of the hotel didn't overpower any conversation at all, it was very comfortable having a conversation at the table with your meal.

Enjoyed this entertainment a lot. I would love to return there someday. We did not eat there but customers seemed to enjoy their meal.
