I have to say that Preston and Penny are the best. They accommodated our request to spend just one night before heading to another resort about 46 miles away. We are so glad we did. I have come to believe that a resort is not a place, but rather the people that own and operate the "place". The cabin we stayed in was clean, neat and had a great view across the lake. I would recommend Big Timber Lodge to anyone, and I would especially recommend they stay at least one week rather than just one night. Thank you Penny and Preston!!! Fred and Joanne.

Room Tip: Looked to me that any cabin would have been great. We stayed in #4, and while the cabin did not hav...

My husband and I loved the amazing sunsets we viewed from the dock and our cabin. Having an eagle fly by topped it off. Very clean cabin! Friendly, caring and accomodating owners (Preston has an amazing radio voice). The short hiking area in the woods was great after a meal. Easy trip to go out to eat in Dorset, Nevis or Park Rapids. Itasca is a great option for more of a nature fix too. We hope to return next year!

I will start off by saying we already booked our cabin for next year. We had such a nice time. The resort was quiet and peaceful everything we were hoping for. Not a party resort unless your idea of a party is camp fires, fishing, grilling, kayaking, pedal boating, horse shoes, basketball, reading, board games, pool, picnics I could go on and on.... The owners are friendly but not overbearing. It is odd in this day and age that they use the honor system a clip board which you write down if you took and ice cream treat, pop, candy bar etc...it is nice that they are so trusting and I saw with our kids they really wanted to live up to the trust they were being given by making sure to write down what they took and pay for it the next day when they went to get their free hot chocolate :) We didn't catch many keepers while fishing but then we don't fish often so probably had no idea what we were doing. The sunsets were beautiful. It is also ideally located Park Rapids is about 16 miles, Ackley, Nevis, Itasca State Park, and Bemidji State Park were all within driving distance so we got some sight seeing in as well! Bonus :)

We just got back from an excellent week at Big Timber Lodge. As we left the lodge we asked our 4 kids ages 10-16 how they would rate the trip on a scale of 1-10. All 4 of them rated it 8.5-9.5. We have traveled to many beautiful places in the US and abroad so this was a huge compliment. The resort was beautiful! The hosts, Penny and Preston, were wonderful and very accommodating. Our cabin, #5, was perfect! If you want a peaceful, family centered vacation, this is the place for you! ENJOY!

We have spent several spring and fall vacations at Big Timber over the past 8 years. Preston and Penny have been excellent hosts during our long and not-so-long stays. We enjoy our time relaxing, fishing and watching the grandkids play at the beach. The quiet of the evening fire time, breathtaking sunsets and the loons singing keep us coming back year after year. The cabins are always clean and well maintained and anything we have asked for has been provided. We always look forward to our next visit to 3rd Crow and time with the Turners.
