This is a little hole in the wall barbeque joint on the far north end of Minneapolis. These folks are doing it, and they're doing it well. The ribs and rib tips are pretty good, but the brisket is as good as I've ever had anywhere.
You can get a sandwich for $7; $9 gets you a larger portion and a side dish. Plates have two side dishes and run $10-15. Ordering just a meat, like a pound of brisket, or a rack of ribs will still cost under $20 and includes a side dish. There are two special features: Firebox Fries and the Firebox feast.
The feast includes a rack of ribs, a pound of brisket or pulled pork, and eight chicken wings. There are several sides included as well as Texas Toast. We fed four hungry adults and had enough left over for three more meals, at a price of $57. This is a bargain.
Firebox Fries are a large portion of good quality fries, topped with melted cheese, sauce and lots of chopped ends and pieces. At $7, this is very filling and tasty. You can add more meat for $2 more. This is so, so good, and you just have to tell your conscience to shut up and enjoy itself.
Sides include pretty good greens, good fries, excellent sweet potatoes, and very tasty mac and cheese. There is also sticky rice. I know of no other barbecue joint in the world with sticky rice. Fountain drinks are available. Sometimes, on weekends, they run out of stuff, so order early.
This place is well worth driving out of your way. Be sure to order an extra pound of brisket to take home. You won't be sorry.
