When I first started visiting the North Shore, there was no bypass and while it is convenient and faster, the scenic drive is really beautiful. There are some nice shops and restaurants, although they are probably missing the traffic. When I travel to the North Shore with friends and we have a bit of time, I opt for this scenic drive.

A trip up Hwy 61 is always something to look forward to! First stop would be Russ Kendall's for famous smoked salmon. There are many opportunities to stop at the state parks and various other locations for short hikes. I would suggest purchasing a book with easy hikes which detail specific directions to the trail head. You are rewarded with amazing views and memories for a lifetime!

We had a great drive along this route. There are lots of places to stop and view Lake Superior and there are quite a few local restaurants. Drive from Duluth north on this and you will see some beautiful scenery.

Most of the drive you are right next to the lake. The views are breathtaking! We always stop at Emily's and the Great Lakes Candy Kitchen.

We didn't have a lot of time for a long drive so we sent only a few miles along the scenic drive. A little taste of heaven with a road running through it. Superior scenery (see what I did there?). Easy driving. Well-marked road (although there was some road work but it didn't hold us back). All in all, we are looking forward to doing the whole drive in the near future.
