Spent two nights here in the "Saffron Room". Large comfy, clean, modern, beautifully decorated second floor room, bed and bath. Large furnished balcony overlooking a side street. Luxurious bed linens and bath supplies. This room did not have a refrigerator but guests can use the "community fridge" behind reception. Breakfast was amply continental and we were able to take our food and drink out to the back porch with lots of Adirondack chairs and tables. There is also a wonderful "gathering building" in the back yard at the rear of the inn, furnished with table, chairs and couches and dishes/silverware to use. Inn is right in the heart of town--easily walkable to many restaurants and shops and the beach/lake. Bring a bag chair and walk down for the magnificent sunset. Amtrack stops two blocks away. Ample lot for cars. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Wonderful experience and hope to be back soon. Great for an adult getaway to Harbor Country.

Room tip: Ask for a room facing Merchant Street as it will have a balcony or porch. Wheelchair accessible. No elevator in inn..

Thanks so much for staying with us and for your review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We changed our property to adults only about two years ago. While potentially this has cost us some business, it has been working out very well for our guests. Actually, we often have parents stay with us while someone is watching their kids and they seem to especially appreciate being able to get away for some adult only time.

Again thank you so much. Really hope you're able to return soon.

If you've read the other tripadvisor reviews on Lake Country, you can see there is a lot to like about the inn: attractively furnished, well maintained, and clean rooms; centrally located and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the beach. I am, however, short of going beyond the very good rating and matching the several excellent tripadvisor ratings. I would view the location as being a positive factor during the week but not necessarily so on the weekend when the aforementioned businesses and beach are filled with crowds of people. Our room offered excellent air conditioning (we stayed during a hot and humid spell) and a great balcony on which we enjoyed morning breakfasts and evening snacks and drinks. The continental breakfast itself was, I feel, average. I also think that our room had a flat screen TV that was too small, a single chair (odd in an inn that caters to couples), and no refrigerator. The tariff was fair for during the week but was more than what I would want to pay on weekends; however I cannot blame the owners for the law of supply and demand kicks in for crowded New Buffalo weekends.

We really appreciate your review and thank you for staying with us. We're very glad you enjoyed your stay. Like all popular beach resort areas, our little village does get congested downtown during a beautiful, hot summer weekend. However, since New Buffalo is so small––population of only 1700 with only one traffic light––I would say our congestion is relatively minimal compared to the other, larger beach resort towns along the coast. After Labor Day things calm down quite a bit so if you're looking for more quiet on the weekends visiting during the fall would be a consideration. September is a great month in New Buffalo

After the busy season ends on Labor Day, pretty much everyone's seasonal Summer rates drop. Otherwise, if you compare our rates to the local competition you'll find them to be very competitive if not lower.

The saffron room that you chose to stay in does currently have the smallest Smart television of any of our rooms; much larger Smart televisions are available in all other rooms except the Orange. We have scheduled installation of new, larger screens in both rooms for the fall. Also, the Blue, Yellow, and Tower room alternatives are larger and therefore can accommodate additional seating, refrigerators, and even a pull out sleeper sofa in the Blue and Yellow. Our property also has a refrigerator in the common area which everyone can use. Again these larger rooms would be more affordable after Labor Day.

Thanks again.

No expense was spared in remodeling this oasis in a Michigan beach community; the rooms are named for colors that the decorator used to their full extent. More importantly, however, is the cleanliness and soft towels and nice amenities. Add to that very hospitable owners and staff combined with a very nice continental breakfast you have a great place to return to after wandering this very unique area adjacent to Lake Michigan. They don't allow children.

Room tip: Two rooms have great porches with Adirondack chairs!

Thank you so very much for your review. We are extremely pleased you enjoyed your visit. While our property has the look and style of an older building, it was actually built brand-new from the ground up in 2005. Hi quality materials are present throughout the property and include Pela windows, Kohler fixtures, and some very nice furnishings from the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. Also, the property was built specifically to be an inn with additional soundproofing throughout.

We changed our policy to adults only about two years ago as our property is fairly small and just not set up for children.. This is has worked out very well for our guests so far.

Hope we see you back soon. We totally agree with you that the Southwest Michigan shoreline area is unique and extremely beautiful.

My husband and I were interested in checking out Lake Michigan from the Michigan shore. New Buffalo was so easily accessible so we headed to Lake Country Inn based on a recommendation from friends. The Inn was the absolute perfect respite for a birthday weekend. We were close to the beach, downtown shopping and dining. And more importantly, the Inn was high end, well appointed and completely charming. The owners made a point to be on site to greet guests, and the staff were really helpful; present (if needed) but invisible! Wonderful weekend getaway.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your visit to New Buffalo. Thank you so much for your review and for staying with us. While our property is only a one hour drive from downtown Chicago, you will feel like you have escaped to a place much farther away. The small town atmosphere and our beautiful shoreline really help you relax and rejuvenate. It is no wonder that the Wall Street Journal has highlighted the Harbor Country Area as one of the top second home regions in the country.

Hope to see you guys again soon.

Great location in New Buffalo. Friendly staff and well appointed rooms that have room to move around. The rooms are beautifully appointed with a nice bathroom with good quality toiletries. We were in transit to Wisconsin and stayed the night. They had good recommendations for dining - dinner and breakfast. They have a nice continental breakfast but we opted for a walk and visit to a local eatery for a more substantial meal. The room did not have a fridge but they were helpful and stored our items for us. Would definitely return.

Room tip: We were upstairs and had no noise issues, other than a huge thunderstorm that probably woke the entire town.

We really appreciate your staying with us and thanks so much for the review. Our building was constructed in 2005 so all the systems are current. Also, the property was specifically built to be an Inn so there is lots of extra sound proofing. Plus, there are now worries about losing power to the building during one of our summer storms as we have a complete back-up generator system to make sure our guests stay comfortable.

Hope you can make it back our way soon.
