Owner description: One of the most sacred places for Buddhists, the temple is an imposing example of early brick structures in India. It holds the diamond throne, a colossal image of Buddha and the holy Bodhi tree.

“Interesting but Not Spiritual”
Reviewed 10 December 2011

Loud amplified music and pushy hawkers of cheap objects right outside temple gate greatly spoiled atmosphere of a major Buddhist site. And in alley right beyond temple were very poor slum buildings - you don't have to go far to see dukha.

“I didn't see the light but very cool regardless”
Reviewed 5 December 2011

It's worth they hype and pretty amazing to go to the place Buddha reached enlightenment. Very nice to just sit there along the railing, stare at the monks doing their chants, people flocking through and the birds flying amongst the tree. The tree is much bigger than I thought it would be which I should have expected given it's age. Highlight for me was seeing a group of monks take their pledges and put on their robes for the first time. Being there for their transition to full time monk was a very special moment for everyone watching. Shoes off at the entry and there is a camera fee if you want to take pics.
