We found the gardens pleasant to visit, but the focus is on the working windmill. Be sure to take a tour of the windmill as the docents are good. Spend some time with the history of the area. We missed the organ presentation because of a wedding starting and the music would have conflicted with the string quartet. But would suggest visiting that section of the gardens.

Do be aware that the windmill tour involves walking up stairs and could be difficult for those with walking problems. Do not worry about the height; I have an issue at times with heights, but the platform you exit onto for part of the tour should not be an issue.

Had a great visit on a beautiful day, not as crowded as expected. Used my botanical garden card from St. Louis to get in free

Windmill Island is tuck away as the city grew around it. The Dutch, proud of their history, bought it here and it something to make time to see. There is a tour that takes visitors up the many floors to see how this mill still operates. It is operated by an officially trained miller, who also is the only female in the trade!
