Description: Fabulous food and drink in a cozy, comfortable setting. That’s what we’re all about. While the fresh, locally sourced food and the carefully selected beer, wine, and craft cocktails are at our core, we also wanted a cool place. Somewhere everyone feels comfortable. With options for private dining, a more lively spot like our bar, our enjoying a beautiful day out on the deck. The Fillmore Bar and Grill was founded on the idea of being just right. Not too big, not too small. Not snobby, but not your run-of- the-mill bar environment. The kind of place you’re excited to introduce a friend to. Or where you can relax at the end of a long day.

We were inspired to try this place because the Ann Arbor detours looked a bit crazy. We arrived around closing and they still served us and we were so thankful!

So glad we stopped here. A freind recommended The Brussels and boy they were good.. and no pork! We ordered salmon and filet. Both cooked perfectly. Salmon was prepared with a ton of artistic ability. We were told by our friendly waitstaff that the chef changed the menu. Saw reviews that disliked this but I thought the menu had a great variety of healthy items as well as your traditional chop house items. Can't wait to go back and try the bread pudding!

My husband and I recently went here for dinner. We'd been here before, saving it for special occasions. Not so anymore. The menu is similar to every other casual dining restaurant. What happened to the fine dining menu?
The food was good but pricey. We had the scallops with grits for an appetizer which was good. For our entrees we ended up with salads with added chicken and salmon. The best part of the meal was my dessert, pretzel bread pudding which tasted like French toast with caramel sauce.

Terry B's is located in a quaint house in Dexter with a great porch (mosquito laden though) to enjoy appetizers and drinks on a summer night.

We went for dinner this time, with friends, and sat inside. We've dined here many times over the years, but have never quite been satisfied from the start of drinks all the way to dessert. There have always been some highlights, but never a consistent dining experience.

Friday night was no exception. This was very typical Terry B's in our experience. They lost an appetizer, one main meal came out with salads, server was not fluent about liquor brands. Dessert was ho hum.

Some background: Terry B's previous chef, DH, left for Chartreuse in Detroit about a year and a half ago. Chef DH's meals were very heavy, sauce laden (think: heartburn at 2 am). Inventive by Dexter standards but kind of boring if you're well traveled. One stand out was one dessert: crack pie, which was basically a rip off of a Momofuku famous dessert, but it worked and it was always a nice finish.

Overall, every time we dined under Chef DH we left wondering, why??? Through the years, there were always items that were well executed. But, overall the entire dining experience was never in line with the expectations of the price point and setting.

Flash forward after Chef DH left for Chartreuse, Terry B's got along with the staff they had and brought in executive chef CH who had basically been everywhere but never made a solid mark anywhere. They were really just biding time, in our opinion. They kept the same menu, including desserts with the crack pie. The meals were still heartburn worthy and the same desserts took a turn for the worse. What should have been the saving grace, the crack pie, was lost in interpretation. The title tells you it should be swoon worthy and under Chef CH it was so hard it would crack a tooth, not make you crave it. This time period was their lowest.

Recently, they hired a new chef, Jessi Patuano, who has been a sous chef all over, The Root, Bacco Ristorante, Chartreuse. So, there is great promise and we are truly hopeful.

However, they're not there just yet. Maybe it's the management (has never been a strong suit) and the ownership (owner is not a restauranteur but a member of the medical profession, always absent, I've never ever seen owner at restaurant. Ever.) Something is still amiss. In the past, our understanding is that the owner wanted to provide meals that were heavy enough to make it worth the drive from Ann Arbor. I interpret this as: cautious, afraid to step it up, push the envelope. And, that's always how the meals felt and still do.

Our dining experience this weekend was fine but not stellar and with the setting and potential of chef, it should have been outstanding. Chicken: tender but blah with the wilted greens/carrots and smashed potatoes (basically brownish looking mashed potatoes with some chunks left in).
Pork: tasty, served with fries. The salmon may have been the highlight along with the loaded potato appetizer. No one in our group said, that was amazing. In fact most of us didn't finish our meals and only one asked for take home container.

The beverage service needs to be stepped up as well. Know your liquor, folks! And, then train your wait staff! No server at a high end restaurant should ever say, I don't know what brands we have, let me check. Seriously, at a dive bar, maybe, but not at a place like this!
Seriously lacking.

We all had dessert, too, and were informed the one we liked was going to be removed shortly. Nice. Got a good thing and you decide to take it off the menu?

For now, we'll give them another try with drinks and appetizers on the porch (with serious helping of bug spray). And, we'll wait out trying the principals for a while.

This restaurant has so much untapped potential. They now have a chef that *could* do amazing things, even within the confines of a pork, a chicken, a beef, a fish and a vegetarian option. For now, though, that's how we ordered: the chicken, the fish, the pork... the vodka drink, the bourbon drink. Boring. Boring. Boring. If the owner really wants to make a statement, take these confines and make them better, not more boring. What are they so afraid of?

It's going to take some guts to push this place where it can go. And, we're waiting and hoping for this new chef to put on her big girl panties and shake this place up.

The food is amazing. Drive a couple more exits down I-94 and go here for fresh and delicious food.

We ordered the Spicy Shrimp Crunch Roll appetizer (possible one of the best things I have ever eaten). Also, ordered the Filet Mignon, Braised Pork Shoulder, and a Bananas Foster for dessert. Everything was delicious. My favorites were the Michigan White Cheddar and Potato Croquette that came with the Filet as well as the Shrimp crunch roll appetizer. The braised pork shoulder was also delicious and tender. This was an A+++ dinner.

Total cost with 2 drinks was approx $130. Well worth it.
