Owner description: Considered to house one of the best art collections in the United States, the Institute showcases everything from mummies to modern art and African masks to Monets in its outstanding collection of over 65,000 works. Don't miss the General Motors Center for African American Art, a part of the DIA which showcases 400 pieces, in various media, by African American artists.

I've love the DIA since I was a little girl. And believe me, that was several decades ago! There is so much to see and enjoy and learn there. Some of the times I've loved best are when it's not crowded and you can just spend as much time as you want with each exhibit.

excellent museum in an interesting building the original built in 1927. It's said to be the 5th largest collection in the U.S. and it is indeed an excellent collection. I saw only a fraction in the 4 hours I was there; many treasures. The cafeteria food was quite decent.

One of the few wonderful things in Detroit (unfortunately). The Diego Rivera murals are stupendous, as is much of the other art. What can you say about one of the great museums in America? Don't miss it if you're nearby.

This place always surprises. The Thinker is out front, good modern art gallery, beautiful medieval chapel... Nice for winter Sunday afternoons.

After numerous visits here, I never grow tired of the DIA! Do not miss the Diego Riviera room and the free ipad tour with videos showing Riviera painting the frescoes in the 1930's. Plan to eat in the excellent cafeteria and be sure to visit the outstanding gift shop. This is truly a world-class museum.
