We stayed here in midsummer because it was close to the Williamstown Theater Festival. It was a bit of a disappointment: the place is a bit run-down, the electric sockets in the room weren't active, the wireless went down several times, and - although we dutifully left the room for 4-5 hours in the midday - the room wasn't made up when we got back. And, two days in a row, they didn't give us our complimentary coffee packets in the room for our pathetic little coffeemaker. I know these are petty complaints, but for a place that charges premium prices, they should do much better.

Everything associated with Williams College is absolutely first rate!! - with one major exception - The Williams Inn. It is old, dated, with a mixed, often indifferent staff - breakfast is just awful - a real disappointment. The Williamsburg Motel - a mile or so down the street if far better and less than half the price.
.

Room Tip: I don't think they have good rooms.

Dear Ted W,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We truly value the opinions of our customers and we apologize that we did not meet your expectations.

Providing our guests with the best possible hospitality and service has always been our mission. As we have our limitations structurally, we strive for excellent customer service and clean rooms. We are addressing the old and dated issue, by building a brand new inn scheduled to open May/June of 2019. I will speak to the staff to re-emphasize or dedication to customer service as this is not typical behavior as well as to look into what we can do to improve our breakfast.

If you come back to our hotel I would love to have the opportunity to speak with you directly, so please ask for me. We hope to see you again in the future when your travel plans bring you back to Williamstown and you give us an opportunity to make it right.

Best Regards,

The Williams Inn:
Pros: fantastic location, right on the campus of Williams College: nice staff
Cons: everything else

Far too expensive for what you get. Shabby and dinghy. It is so obvious - and really shameful - that the management of this inn really milks its clientele - for the most part, I believe, families of students at or visiting Williams College - because of its location and the fact that there aren't many options for lodging in Williamstown. I wouldn't let my son use the hot tub, since there was mold around it. If he gets into Williams and goes - great college, beautiful campus - we will stay elsewhere when we visit.

Room Tip: To get a good room, find another hotel, even in a nearby town.

We stayed at the Williams Inn for one night earlier this week. Dingy, shabby and depressing. The place smells of mildew, not enough electricity is used in the halls, wall paper in public areas is damage and even coming off the wall. A quality institution like Williams College should keep this place up to snuff even though they plan to tear it down and build a new hotel. To give examples, we arrived right at check in time and were told there were no rooms of the level we booked ready for occupancy. We were also told we could not arrange to take a room of a different level. After waiting about a half hour, we were upgraded free to a different category of room. There was nothing special about this room, it appeared to be a normal room. It was probably more than a quarter mile walk from reception to the room, no offer of help with our bags, though we are in our 60's. The bar closes at 9 pm. Hotel staff directed us to a bar on the main street which is a bare bones student bar when there was a nice one across the street from the one they suggested. Breakfast is included but few choices. No cold or hot cereal. Most hotels with breakfast offered give a huge choice or will make something to order especially faced with dietary restrictions, but here, no one was on duty at breakfast, even to clear tables that had been used. Circling back to the fact that no rooms were ready to occupy at check in time on a Monday, few people were staying in the hotel. Why had no rooms been readied the day before, as it appears there were many vacant rooms? Never again. The only reason we stayed, instead of going someplace else, is that we had already paid.

This is what a really nice hotel is ... in 1985. The rooms were large, comfortable, and well appointed. But I haven't seen plastic keys with the room number on them since the Reagan Administration. A colleague (and Williams grad) tells me that the hotel is going to be torn down soon, so my guess is that they decided against all the usual upgrades you seen in 4-star hotels. The location can't be beat -- walking distance to the college and the theater.

Room Tip: Opted for a fancier room seemed like money well spent

Dear Peter B,

Thank you for your stay with us and for sharing your experience with other travelers. We were pleased to read you liked the size and comfort-ability of the room. Please rest assured we will have the 4-star upgrades in the new inn when it opens in May/June 2019.
