If you ever have the chance to go to the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA (The Big E) you should go. Typically we walk around and check out all the vendors (food, crafts, etc.) and always walk in each of the state buildings, however this year in addition to doing all that, we also went to the circus in the large tent onsite. What a GREAT show. Horse whisperer, juggler, trapeze, and much much more. It was all worth seeing. We also listened to the band "Ten Years After" popular in the 60's at the outside arena. They have different bands pretty much each day/evening. The show was free and we enjoyed the music. Saw the camel show and the mardi gras parade. The Shriners are always a treat too with their little vehicles in the parade. Enjoyed it all.

Gotta love the Big E. We go every year and look forward to eat. What isn’t there to do at the Big E. You have carnival rides, animal petting, you can shop, shop and shop. If you love carnival food you will be in heaven because the options are plentiful. Too many to list. If you can think of it, most likely it is there. You can also visit the state homes which are CT, VT, MA, RI, NH and ME. Oh by the way they also have live music and concerts. If you have never gone? Take the time to go I bet you will have fun.

I've been (dragged) to the Big E for years over a number of decades. Honestly, I could only be forced to go and fight the masses, trip on the trash, slip on the grease, and fight off the endless sales pitches from the "carneys" once every 2-5 years.

However, after having skipped last year, this year I was actually extremely pleased. Of course, arriving early on a chilly and cloudy Saturday the masses were likely delayed thankfully to the weather report.

The State Houses were the first to be looped, one after the other. Almost dizzying, but the paced through was slower than expected and my inner ear was pleased. What brightened my mood the most, State House after State House, each had an emphasis on their own Micro/Macro Breweries!

The day was better fit for Hot Chocolate and Coffee, but if properly dressed, you too could enjoy the Brews like I did. Keyword, pace yourself. It's a long day, prices are higher than normal, and nobody likes a drunken slob.

Putting all that aside, the entire Fair seemed more enjoyable than ever before. I usually target 1 or 2 of the unique and premiered Foodie delights. This year I hit the bullseye with the Fried Cannoli, including a scoop of vanilla, whip cream, and drizzles of chocolate & caramel. As always, the closure of the long day included a Lobster Roll (& a final brew) at the Maine State House followed by the Whoopie Pie. The fix for any tired dawgs.
