We had the pleasure of staying a few days at the Isaiah Jones B & B in Sandwich while enjoying Restaurant Week on the Cape. The property itself is a Victorian pleasure to behold, and close attention is paid inside and out to assure that your every comfort is addressed. We love places such as this that anticipate the needs of their guests and we don't have to ask or feel like we are making special requests.
Hosts: Donnie is a fun-loving and extremely knowledgeable host who will provide you with great suggestions to the level that you desire. We heard him provide an extremely detailed description to those unfamiliar with the Cape and Sandwich particularly, while another couple who had experienced the area previously were provided with briefer but current information to their satisfaction. Katherine is a wonderful chef and makes inventive and tasty breakfasts. During our stay we enjoyed a an elegantly presented 3-course meal each morning featuring a made-from-scratch bread course, a fruit course (on one of the days the fruit course was a grilled pineapple wedge with a miso glaze--yum!), and a very ample main 3rd course. They will help you with any dietary needs and insure you still have a top-notch dining experience.
Location: This is extremely important to us as we prefer to walk whenever possible as we enjoy a town. This Inn is situated exactly where you want to be if this is also important to you as much of the other parts of Sandwich do not have sidewalks and the traffic can get a little hairy. The abundant off-street parking is also a wonderful amenity at this Inn if you will also be exploring far afield. Within walking distance with sidewalks are several restaurants, including some of the best in the area, and some fun little coffee shops and boutiques. We also walked to the boardwalk and generally all around.
Room: Our room was extremely clean and very interestingly decorated. For us the period perfect, original winding front staircase leading to our room was lovely, but could present a challenge to a person with a physical disability or challenge. These types of stairs have stair steps that are deeper (taller) than modern stairs while the actual stair pad is narrower. The stairwell itself is narrower than current stairs as they are in most Italianate historic homes. The Inn has lovely first floor rooms, so if you are physically challenged or differently-abled, you can still enjoy this wonderful hotel. There are also rooms on a different back staircase that may better suit some. For us, the room we chose was PERFECT. The bathroom was extremely clean, had nice towels, robes, and abundant toiletries. Be aware that the lotion is period-specific "milk" so it may come out of the container faster. The bathroom was one of the places where all of your needs are anticipated as mentioned earlier so we loved it. The bed was super comfortable and the sheets were of high quality.
Overall, we had an unparalleled experience and look forward to visiting Sandwich and The Isaiah Jones B & B again. We stay in many historic inns and hotels, and have added this one to our top favorites list.
