“A new favorite historic B & B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2012

We had the pleasure of staying a few days at the Isaiah Jones B & B in Sandwich while enjoying Restaurant Week on the Cape. The property itself is a Victorian pleasure to behold, and close attention is paid inside and out to assure that your every comfort is addressed. We love places such as this that anticipate the needs of their guests and we don't have to ask or feel like we are making special requests.

Hosts: Donnie is a fun-loving and extremely knowledgeable host who will provide you with great suggestions to the level that you desire. We heard him provide an extremely detailed description to those unfamiliar with the Cape and Sandwich particularly, while another couple who had experienced the area previously were provided with briefer but current information to their satisfaction. Katherine is a wonderful chef and makes inventive and tasty breakfasts. During our stay we enjoyed a an elegantly presented 3-course meal each morning featuring a made-from-scratch bread course, a fruit course (on one of the days the fruit course was a grilled pineapple wedge with a miso glaze--yum!), and a very ample main 3rd course. They will help you with any dietary needs and insure you still have a top-notch dining experience.

Location: This is extremely important to us as we prefer to walk whenever possible as we enjoy a town. This Inn is situated exactly where you want to be if this is also important to you as much of the other parts of Sandwich do not have sidewalks and the traffic can get a little hairy. The abundant off-street parking is also a wonderful amenity at this Inn if you will also be exploring far afield. Within walking distance with sidewalks are several restaurants, including some of the best in the area, and some fun little coffee shops and boutiques. We also walked to the boardwalk and generally all around.

Room: Our room was extremely clean and very interestingly decorated. For us the period perfect, original winding front staircase leading to our room was lovely, but could present a challenge to a person with a physical disability or challenge. These types of stairs have stair steps that are deeper (taller) than modern stairs while the actual stair pad is narrower. The stairwell itself is narrower than current stairs as they are in most Italianate historic homes. The Inn has lovely first floor rooms, so if you are physically challenged or differently-abled, you can still enjoy this wonderful hotel. There are also rooms on a different back staircase that may better suit some. For us, the room we chose was PERFECT. The bathroom was extremely clean, had nice towels, robes, and abundant toiletries. Be aware that the lotion is period-specific "milk" so it may come out of the container faster. The bathroom was one of the places where all of your needs are anticipated as mentioned earlier so we loved it. The bed was super comfortable and the sheets were of high quality.

Overall, we had an unparalleled experience and look forward to visiting Sandwich and The Isaiah Jones B & B again. We stay in many historic inns and hotels, and have added this one to our top favorites list.

Room Tip: Ask ahead of time which floor and which staircase you will use if you have a physical challenge. The...

We don't live far from Sandwich, but just needed a break from the regular routine. Donnie and Katherine provided just what we needed: excellent recommendations for nearby restaurants, comfortable rooms, and a FABULOUS breakfast. THANK YOU!!

We read an article in the WSJ about Cape Cod which suggested the Isaiah Jones Homestead B&B. Also saw very positive reviews on TripAdvisor. We spent three nights in the Thornton Burgess room which is in the carriage house adjacent to the main house. The weather was windy and cool so we particularly enjoyed the gas fireplace in our room. Katherine and Donnie were pleasant hosts and the breakfasts were elegant as well as delicious. We generally didn't eat lunch until mid-afternoon since we were still full from the three course breakfast. We brought our bikes and on arrival Donnie immediately suggested we store them in the carriage house. The Cape Cod Canal Trail is a five minute cycle from the B&B. Our only regret was not staying longer!

Room Tip: The Thornton Burgess room has a deep whirlpool tub and a gas fireplace. Lovely quiet room.

Had another great stay at the Isaiah Jones and were pampered, as usual, by Donnie and Katherine. The rooms in both the carriage house and the inn itself are immaculate (kudos to Francis for doing such a great job). Our stay was split between the carriage house and the inn, two totally different atmospheres but both equally wonderful. As always, we especially enjoyed conversations with Donnie and Katherine. Please see previous reviews.

Room Tip: The rooms (suites) in the carriage house are less formal and larger.

The Isaiah Jones Homestead is an elegant, comfortable place and a great base for a relaxing trip to Cape Cod. Don and Katherine are wonderful hosts. They are attentive but not overly so. Each day they suggested restaurants for dinner, things to see, provided directions, and were there for the kind of pleasant conversations that help to make a vacation especially memorable. We came away feeling like we were at our "home away from home."

As mentioned by practically everyone else on this site, the breakfasts were delicious, visually appealing and huge. Also special were the homemade cookies that were always available.

Over the past year or so, we have been using Trip Advisor reviews to help us chose hotels, and we have found great places every time. This B & B had the #1 rating of hotels in Sandwich and we found out why. Our vacation to Cape Cod and our stay at the Isaiah Jones Homestead was relaxing, fun, and something that would certainly be worth repeating.
