“Creepy but nice !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2012 via mobile

We stayed here in July of 2012. The room was very nice and extremely clean. It's a bit creepy because you are staying in a renovated church. There are reminders everywhere; even our headboard was a church pew. It was a bit weird. The breakfast was nice but it didn't start until 9 on Sundays which was a bit late for us because we wanted to get on the road. Also the back entrance to get to the rooms is a bit unfinished and the stairs are not so stable. The exhaust from the restaurant below blows on you as you walk by the stairs which is a bit gross and uncomfortable. As for price the room is nice and has a fancy shower that plays music and has lights but with the weirdness factor not sure it's worth the money; especially because there isnt much to do in the town.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us feedback on your stay. At the Belfry, we love to go above and beyond to give our guests the highest quality of service, and hearing from them post-trip helps us to learn what we can do to make future guest's stays more enjoyable.

That being said, we apologize for any discomfort or inconvenience you experienced while staying with us. It's true, The Abbey is a renovated church, but if church pew headboards and stained glass aren't for you, we have two other non-church buildings that have a much different feel: The Painted Lady (a fun, light, and artistic Victorian chateau) and The Village House (a clean, calm, old-fashioned Federal style house).

We're glad you enjoyed breakfast, and we apologize if was a bit too early for you. We only start serving at 9 on Sundays, but we serve breakfast from 8-9:30 on Monday-Saturday. Not to mention, coffee and our standard continental breakfast (pastries, fruit, etc...) is available every day (including Sundays) at 7. So no matter if you're an early riser or a bit of a night owl who likes to sleep in, there will always be a breakfast time slot that works for you.

As for the "fancy shower" you mentioned, that is our newly installed Vedana Spa Unit. It offers aromatherapy, light therapy, and other amenities that our other rooms do not. It can definitely be tough to figure out at first and we apologize for any "weirdness". We would be more than happy to turn the lights and music off for you so that you can enjoy a quiet, relaxing shower without all the extras.

And while it may not seem like it, Sandwich is filled with hidden gems and fun things to do. At our front desk, we have dozens of pamphlets, magazines, and activity recommendations if you find yourself a little lost or overwhelmed: whale watches, beaches, museums, outdoor activities, stores, historic sights, concerts… the list goes on and on and we would be happy to help you fill your vacation agenda with loads of Sandwich fun.

Thanks again for staying with us and being honest about your experience. We will keep your suggestions in mind in order to better the stays of future guests.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2012

We recently stayed at the Belfry Bed and Breakfast and were very impressed with the inn. There are two buildings owned by the establishment; one is an old house called Painted Lady and the other is a small church, both have been converted into a bed and breakfast.
We stayed at the William room on the first floor which had a two bedrooms, the larger one had a queen bed and the smaller one had two twin beds. Both had an attached bathroom of course the larger one had a more spacious bathroom. The rooms had a pleasant ambience and were well appointed with all the amenities like TV, a/c and were very clean with crisp white linen. The bathrooms were spotless too with white towels, a hair dryer. Our room had a spacious balcony too.
The breakfast was scrumptious with a choice of two hot entrees like waffles or omelettes served with toast. There was banana bread, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice as well as a choice of teas and drip coffee. The breakfast/dining hall was located on the ground floor of the church building; its expansive ceilings, woodwork ceilings and stained glass windows brought a charm of its own to the space.

There is a wonderful wine tasting event that is held every Wednesday in the dining hall. They sample about 4 to 5 wines with different appetizers. You have to reserve a spot in advance. It is $25 per head which we were not aware of and were under the impression that it was complimentary for the guests. This bed and breakfast has a full service restaurant that is open to public hence we thought that it was complimentary for guests. Our mistake as we did not read the fine print on the bottom of the wine tasting menu. I noted it so people are aware and do not end up spending unnecessarily.
The only negative: Attitude
In this place where so much attention was given to detail there was only one where the management could certainly improve on. As its not a full service hotel they have a coffee machine and an ice-maker on the ground floor of the Painted lady building where we stayed. There is also a small refrigerator where they put the milk for the coffee. This is great!
But the glitch is that the coffee is can be made in the machine with espresso coffee pods only from 11pm to 7am. If its past 7am then one has to go across to the breakfast hall located in the building next door to get the coffee. The point is that when so much attention is given to all the things in the bed and breakfast they should not overlook such details. This place is not cheap and charges $250 per night.
The second day when I went to get the coffee downstairs around 6.30am, I did not find the pods at the coffee machine, so I went to the building next door to see if I could get some over there. As it was before 7am I was told by the owner (he also makes the breakfast) that I would have to wait for twenty more minutes to get the coffee which was okay. The thing that bothered me was the unwelcoming attitude of the owner, he could have simply said sorry for the inconvenience. He did not say anything verbally but his expression was enough to send the message across. But yes he did put two coffee pods for me after he got to know about the situation. But it could have been done with a smile.
It would be nice if they just let the people have coffee on the house, its not too much to ask for. Also in a small town like Sandwich coffee shops don't open very early.
People are on a vacation to relax and generally would have liked to have the facility to have coffee any time of the day in their own building where they stay. An old gentleman came down to get the coffee and then I had to tell him the rule for coffee. He probably lost interest in his coffee the moment he heard about the "coffee timings"; I did not see him when I went to get my coffee from the breakfast room past 7am. I am sure he would have enjoyed the convenience of having the coffee being available anytime of the day.
But overall Belfry Inn is a quaint place in a quaint town. One negative experience doesn't take away anything from this wonderful place. I hope the management takes note of this and is on top of things.
And Sandwich is one of the best towns to stay while exploring the Cape as it is nestled in its old world charm. Its like being in present yet being in past!

My husband and I were just there for a quiet getaway. The room we stayed in was adorable and comfortable and very clean. The breakfasts were delectable especially the daily serving of banana bread. Chirs, the innkeeper, and all of the staff were so nice and acommodating. We had a wonderful stay. It was the perfect place for us to relax and also to feed our foodie inclinations. We absolutely recommend the Belfry Inne and Bistro.

This is a charming B&B consisting of three different buildings all on one site. One is an old Victorian house, one is an old church called the Abbey that also has the Bistro and the third is called the Village. We stayed in the Village. We had a first floor room with a porch and a large bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and sitting area. The building is in need of a little updating, but it is clean and quaint. The grounds have beautiful gardens. The Bistro food is good and they have a wonderful outdoor seating are surrounded by gardens. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is a bit of a walk to the beach, which is very rocky. The town is VERY small and lacks any real restaurants other than the Bistro -- which was perfect for us. There were some cute shops about a block away, but we were there on a Sunday so they were mostly closed.

I booked the Belfry Inne for an overnight stay without knowing much about it and my husband and I were very pleased with the location, the accommodations, the dinner and the breakfast. Our reservations for our room and dinner were handled without a flaw at check in by Chris (not the owner). This quaint inn is located less than a mile from Sandy Neck Beach in the beautiful, historic town of Sandwich, MA. Our room was located in The Painted Lady building, one of the three buildings that make up the Belfry Inne. The room was very well appointed with fine linens, sitting area, a working gas fireplace, nooks and crannies in the bathroom and appropriately fitting and placed accessories.
For cocktails and dinner we ate on the patio surrounded by lovely lush gardens. Our waiter was friendly, courteous, attentive and easy to talk to. We had a great memorable meal...slow paced and very tasty. For breakfast, we ate inside the Bistro and had the same excellent service and great food.

Room Tip: Our room on the top floor in The Painted Lady building was borderline hot during the night even thou...
