“Free museum with an excellent presentation on the history of the canal.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2011

This was well worth a detour. The history of the canal is presented on a series of display boards, and there is an audio visual presentation too, on the history of the canal and its construction, plus the wildlife.

The best part is that the whole thing is free.

“Great rainy day activity!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2011

We happened on this place looking for something to do on a rainy/cloudy day. It was phenomenal. Wonderful staff, excellent tour of the area (before the downpour), indoor museum including boat the kids can climb into and play on. Great exhibits for all ages.

“Don't Pass this up!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2011

After visiting the Cape many times, and even visiting the Canal each trip, we finally took the time to venture into the Canal Visitor Center this year. We were delighted and really enjoyed the many hands-on exhibits -- w/2 teens & a 10 yr. old. The center is small and really nicely done. You can climb on board a fishing boat, steer a ship through the canal, spell your name with signal flags and more. It is also air conditioned & there is a small gift shop.

“Cape Cod Canal Museum/Visitors Center”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2011

Checked off another item on my bucket list - went to the Cape Cod Canal Museum/Visitors Center and saw a lot of interesting information regarding the canal and it was all FREE! It is a great place to go - the people are great, they are so pleasant, informative and accomodating. The view of the end/start (all depends which way you are going!)of the canal is great - the center is right on the water. It is a 'touchable' museum for kids also! Imagine, they started the creation of the canal by shovel and wheelbarrel - there are pictures of it! Very interesting - pick up free Cape Cod booklets there with money saving coupons in them for other adventures on Cape Cod!

“Always our first stop on Cape.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2011

May-October
This is a cool place. It is a free visitor's center. Not too big, but you can climb aboard a retired patrol boat, watch live radar on the canal, play with some toys, press some buttons, and spin the big wheel to pretend-drive a boat. Pick up some free literature or buy a park ranger hat. They run free programs too. It is right on the canal. That itself can be a day of boat watching. Or walk down to Town Neck beach. Have a picnic at one of the outside tables.
A good rainy day activity since it is free!
Parking is limited, but follow the signs for the overflow lot.
