I have been going to Provincetown since I was a kid(over 40 yrs). For the past 10 plus yrs we have been taking our daughter to Provincetown and since taking her we have only stayed at the Surfside, it is like coming home. The location, the atmosphere , the bay, the pool, the rooms and the complimentary breakfast are all great but second place to Elaine and Liz whom have helped us every year from making our reservation to greeting us upon arrival. The Cape is great but Provincetown and the Surfside are number one !

Can't wait to go back,
Paul

It is important to me to take a sec to thank the excellent front desk staff (Kevin and others) and manager who were most accomodating and very helpful with my reservations and arrangements. They made my stay so enjoyable . The hotel was an excellent time and well kept and clean and inviting to all. It's rare in p town to have easy parking a nice pool free cont breakfast and so close to everything in a welcoming nicely kept environment. My thanks to all the staff and I fully expect to return as well as rec this hotel to others

We spent two nights here at the end of our vacation week after staying at another place in town for mid-July 2012. We could not have asked for a better room overlooking the beach. We felt we had really lucked out with the room and really enjoyed our time there. The room was clean, and provided the basic needs including coffee maker, iron and clean linens. The pool area was well maintained. I would have rated the hotel under excellent - but for the price we paid ($300+ per night), there were a few areas I felt the hotel faltered - and the few areas, can easily be addressed - and would make the hotel a great place.

First, the breakfast. I read several reviews/comments from management about the breakfast stating that eggs, french toast and waffles are available in the morning. Well, half true. They are available some mornings, as they offer eggs one morning, french toast another morning and sausage and gravy (?) another morning. No fruit is offered other than grapefruit. In my opinion, adding some fresh fruit, bananas, apples, oranges, a few basic yogurts and some pastries (muffins) would have rounded out their morning offerings just enough. We ended up going to Angel Foods (a local market) each morning to get breakfast items.

The pool area. We had a great time overall hanging by the pool while we were there. What was missing from the pool area were some umbrellas. A day in the sun is great - and there is some shade under the cement tables in the corner - but that's not an area where you can kick back and relax. A few umbrellas over some of the lounge chairs would be a huge asset in the pool area. This isn't a huge issue to overcome - a quick trip to Ocean State Job Lot, and $200 would be a great asset for those wishing to sit by the pool but avoiding the midday sun. We fixed the problem by bringing over our own beach umbrellas - so no real loss there.

As for the shuttle service referenced by management in the reviews: From overhearing conversations of people looking to get into town during the early evenings, they were directed to a cab service or a pedi-cab. There is no signage that I saw about a shuttle service. So if a shuttle service is available - I would suggest some signage promoting said service. We surely would have used it. Perhaps the shuttle service referenced is a cab service. To me, those are two different animals.

On the upside - the afternoon desk staff were great !! An Irish gentleman and dark haired lady staffed the afternoon front desk. Both were extremely gracious and helpful. Their chipper attitude and willingness to help in anything we needed made us feel very welcome and appreciated for our business.

So overall, in our experience, the room was great and our stay enjoyable. A few small tweaks and I would have rated the hotel excellent. But, based on the nightly room rate - even during a week when every room in town is booked - the hotel could have done a slightly better job.

Thank you for your review and are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We have added the yogurts to our breakfast menu and are looking into your other suggestions. We have also purchsed umbrellas to be used at the pool and the beach, thank you for this suggestion. We also promise to make our guests aware of the shuttle service, however, we can never give them a definate time of arrival to the back of the property, the time depends on how many stops this shuttle has to make on their leaving the property and returning at times it is 45 minutes and other time a little over an hour. We take all comments and suggestions to improve our property seriously and consider each comment. We hope that you will stay with us again in the future.

The Pros: We loved being directly on the bay. Since it was so close to June 21st, we couldn't really see the sun setting, but you probably can later in the summer. Only 15 minute walk to center, and since we ate so much of the good Ptown food we needed the exercise! (Don't wear high heels on this walk, though.) The make-your-own waffles were really delicious @ breakfast.
The Cons: You cannot "BYOB" @ the outdoor fireplace. This would be o.k. with me, if I was able to order what I wanted from the bar. The bartender brought out B & B when I wanted Grand Marnier! I had some in the room, so we drank it on the beach instead.
You Must Love Dogs, which we do, but one doggy was a little too noisy. Would not have sounded so bad, but combined with the baby crying it was a bit much.

Room Tip: We were on top floor of bayfront~loved it!

Thank you for your Trip Advisor Review - I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us, the short walk to town is a pleasant one, through the art district and then through the shops, restaurants and local attractions. Regarding the sun setting, the sun does not set on the bay, the sunset can be viewed from Herring Cove Beach on the Atlantic side of Provincetown, and many of our guests take a drive there in the evening to enjoy the sunset. We have recently received our liquor license for our patio area and are in the process of adding liquors to our bar menu, because of the limited space in our bar our menu at this time is limited. We are a pet friendly hotel and ask are guests if there is a disturbance due to dogs barking that they call the front desk, each pet owner must fill out a form with their cell phone number so that we may reach them and they must agree to return to the hotel immediately and take care of their pet.
