“French Rural Retreat”
Reviewed 5 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

My wife and I stayed in this property for two weeks during June, 2015.
We found the property to be a delightful rural retreat for two. This is not a property for rent so much as someone’s home which is rented out from time to time. The property is very old with original timber beams supporting the ceilings and mellow, exposed stone walls. Like many older homes in this part of France it is not well endowed with windows but this keeps it cool in the heat of summer. It was well equipped for self catering and the laundry facilities were also good. The bathroom has both a generous shower and a generous bath and there was always plenty of hot water. Access to the first floor is by means of a spiral staircase which adds character but will not suit those with limited mobility. There is ample living space on the first floor open plan area but the jewel in the crown of this property is the secluded and private sun terrace where one can wine, dine or just relax on glorious summer evenings.

We thought that a car was essential if you stay at this property but there are plenty of delightful walks to be enjoyed around the village of Causses et Veyran. We enjoyed walking through the vineyards to the nearby village of Cessenon-sur-Orb. The owner left copious information about walking in the area and local Tourist Information Centres such as those at Cessesanon, Roquebrun or St. Chinian are all most helpful.

The local Restaurant/Bar, “La Nouna Bar”, provides good food at a reasonable cost when you want a change from self catering but supermarkets in nearby villages provide a wide range of fresh, local, produce.

Causses et Veyran is a working village in an agricultural area. It is not primarily a tourist area. To us this was part of its charm. We found the local people we met courteous, polite and helpful, even the teenagers, but it is a great advantage if you can speak a little French. We found the owner, Julie Barrett, to be friendly, welcoming and completely honest and open in dealing with all our questions about the property and the village. We plan to return.

“Ideal for two”
Reviewed 4 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We had a very pleasant stay in Julie's little doll's house in Causses et Veyran in Mat 2015.
The house is a converted stable and it is rather astonishing how much flat you can fit into such a small space!
The flat is just the right size for two - most holiday rentals in the area are set out to house families rather than just a couple travelling by themselves.
The bedroom is downstairs and remains fairly cool, even when it's hot and sunny outside, which is a big bonus.
The roof terrace has just the right amount of sun all day - Julie rather bravely let her lovely plants under my care ( I think both me and the plants got away with, though!).

The village is small and sleepy - just what we had been looking for, but there is a small bar and a shop that sells (fabulous) bread and croissants.
The nearest supermarket is in the next village, about 15 minutes drive from the house (but it's closed on a Sunday).
The village is situated about 40 min drive from Beziers Airport and close to the Parc National du Haut Languedoc which has fabulous routes for hikes.

Julie responded reliably and quickly to all my queries and stayed in touch throughout our stay - we appreciated very much that she let us stay in her own house.

A lovely holiday has been had all around.

“Comfortable little house to explore this fabulous area”
Reviewed 5 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We really enjoyed our visit to l' Herault area of France with it's stunning landscapes, wine, history beaches and villages. Unfortunately we didn't get to met Julie but we had a comfortable stay in her bijoux house in a very nice small village with a shop and bar which was close to lots of interesting places to visit; our favourites being Roquebrun, Lunas and the salt marshes near Narbonne. The cottage was well appointed with a really lovely bathroom and full of character.

“Very welcoming little home”
Reviewed 5 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

The little house on two floors with a roof terrace is lovely, especially because you can feel that it is someone's home, filled with lots of private souvenirs and memories. In September the roof terrace was still very warm during evenings. The house is very well equipped with a cosy bedroom, an elegant bathroom, a nice sitting area and a good kitchen, perfect for preparing basic meals after long days of sightseeing in the beautiful surroundings. The narrow winding staircase may be problematic for some people. A car is definitely needed as shops can be found in the neighbouring villages. We have not met the owner, but the e-mail contact with her was very friendly.

“Tidy, comfortable & tucked away.”
Reviewed 3 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

DELIGHTFUL!
Restful, comfortable, well furnished little house with private 'rooftop' patio & BBQ.
Situated in an old French village surrounded by vineyards in the fields, rocky river in the gorge and a local cafe/ restaurant. We loved our time at C de V and felt so welcomed by Julie.
