This was my first experience traveling with a pet and also staying at this motel. The rooms were clean, the staff was nice and friendly, they serve a breakfast in the morning. The grounds were very nicely maintained and decorated with flowering plants. The building we were in was further in the back and was rather a woodsy area which was nice for walking my dog and on the other side of the building we had a beautiful pool view from our 2nd floor balcony.

Room Tip: 2nd Floor has larger rooms if traveling with small families with pets

With a significant investment in upgrading the entire facility, this could be an inviting and pleasant place to stay. The location is very convenient. It's frozen in time, circa 1980. The furniture is outdated, television sets are old, our phone wasn't even working (manager did not care at all--blamed it on the maid), our rear window was cracked, there was a torn lampshade, the bathtub faucet dripped, the only three-prong outlets were in the bathroom, so we had to run our laptop chargers over the toilet tank into the bedroom... So many little things need attention. The beds were comfortable, but the pillows are thin and inexpensive. The outer facility could be dangerous to seniors and children--the wooden steps in the back area were cracked and broken. The young summer staff, mostly Eastern European, were extremely friendly and welcoming. The senior staff from the facility itself couldn't be less interested in making your stay comfortable. Questions and issues were received as if they were inconveniences and disruptions. Breakfast, except for the muffins, is low-grade everything--discounted varieties of every kind of food, plate and cup. Rooms and doors an old-time roadside motel feel to them. This was very unusual: If you don't hang the sign on the door asking for housekeeping service, you don't have your room straightened or cleaned during the day. Instead, new towels are just hung on your door in a plastic bag for you instead. For the price--not cheap at all during peak season, and discounted in this case--there is little to no effort to make you feel welcomed. It seems like they know they can fill the rooms due to the popularity of the area, so little or nothing is upgraded. Sometimes to the point of being safety concerns. The grounds are very nice--the older staff cares very much about keeping the plants watered, but are less interested in the guests. The pool is good but needs an upgrade as well. This could be an ideal location and attractive hotel--with a new owner and lots of fresh energy. Otherwise, it is very tired and a little sad.

Thanks for your feedback regarding your stay here--
All of us here , the owners, myself and the staff members always do our best to make our guests feel welcome and that is why we have many positive reviews and repeat guests. It is unfortunate that we can't please all the people all the time...despite our best efforts. We do our very best to offer our guests a good value for their vacation dollars...Unfortunately the author of this post has a very limited and superficial understanding of the economics of running a seasonal motel here in this market.
It is easy to be critical and list their perceived deficiencies...but unfortunately it is much harder to wave a magic wand and create a brand new facility--while keeping the prices affordable for our customers. It is no secret that there are fancier places to stay in our area if the guest is willing to pay 4x or 6x what we charge. I know that we do provide an excellent value for the price and our many positive reviews and repeat guests are proof of this despite the sniping critique of the vocal few who utilize this platform to air their minority viewpoints.

We stayed at the Governor Prence for 4 nights in late July. Located in the gorgeous town of Orleans, Governor Prence is within walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores and some shops, and is a short drive to the National Seashore, Skaket beach, and Nauset beach (where watched a beautiful sunset.) Orleans hosts a Cape Cod League baseball team, and we attended a game where we brought our own chairs and snacks to the high school field and watched a fun, family friendly baseball game.

The Governor Prence staff was great, very helpful and quick to reply to requests. Our room had two full sized beds, a full bath and a cot that we asked for, which fit perfectly in the room. The hotel is very pet friendly, with spacious grounds for walking your dog. They also have a simple continental breakfast that was perfect for our family.

We highly recommend Governor Prence and hope to stay there again.

This is definitely not a fancy place but if you are looking for a clean room and bath with
an outstanding staff of people who trip over themselves to take care of you this is
the spot. The location is outstanding, a minute to Skaket Beach for sunset., walking
distance to great restaurants, a few minute drive to national seashore beaches and
local ponds and right on the Rail Train Bike path out your back door.
Yes, old and dated but pool is great. Breakfast is continental but fine.
The front desk staff is exceptional...friendly, helpful...better than anyone you would find at an upscale place! I will return.
upscale place!!

We had to find accommodation for one night and booked into Governor Prence months ahead of time. The advertised "deals" and relatively modest prices (circa $150 per night) were not available since we were booking for one night only, a fact we did not know until actually making the reservation. Upon arrival we were not given the type of room we had been told on the phone to expect, but rather their self described "regular room". It was a relic of the distant past and had not been updated for years. The A/C unit was unbelievably loud and the bath/shower had rust and stains. There was no chair other than one at the small desk. The small dorm-type fridge was noisy, too. The saving grace was that the beds were fairly comfortable. The room lacked sufficient insulation to block any sound from the adjoining rooms, too. Fast forward to 4:00 AM when there was a fire alarm which caused all to evacuate their rooms. There was no staff person on duty (this is a large motel with many guests) to assist or inform. Twenty minutes later, with all still outside in their pajamas, a police car arrived on scene and eventually turned off the alarm. Interestingly, when I was checking out the next day, the person on duty was claiming the alarm went on for only five minutes and the incident was clearly just a blip. Despite the fact that three others signing out at the same time said the incident went on for 25 to 30 minutes, the attendant continued to say "the report" said it was 5 minutes. All in all we will certainly try to avoid a stay here in the future. It is unfortunate that demand is so high for accommodations in the area that the owners don't seem to need to modernize their facilities nor care about their guests.

Dear wdemelle
As most reasonable people would realize...when a fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night it is certainly not conducive to a restful sleep--but it is a necessary precaution to protect the safety and welfare of all of our patrons. Sometimes in life situations occur beyond one's control--and how one chooses to react to these challenges in many ways is more reflective of their character and outlook--than it is on the incident itself.
The owners, staff and I do put considerable time, money and effort into the property..and have done so continuously through out the many years of our ownership and management.
Again --most reasonable people know and are aware that there are newer, fancier places to stay on Cape Cod --for those who desire to spend 2x, 3x or 4x or more-- the price which we charge here. Most of our many patrons --and especially those repeat guests who do return here year after year-- know and appreciate that we do offer a great value for the price.
It's unfortunate that a person with champagne tastes who is on a beer budget can use this forum as a soapbox to air their petty gripes--- and attempt to taint other's perceptions --all because we declined to give them a free night's stay here--- due to the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night....
