“Quiet stay”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

We have stayed at the Cove Motel three times in recent years - always in May or early June before the main tourist season starts. It meets our needs perfectly, is comfortable, reasonably priced and very conveniently located. There are many nearby restaurants to choose from which is also a plus. Our most recent stay on Thurs. and Fri. nights was particularly enjoyable thanks to the quiet. It was probably the quietest motel stay we've ever had! The room was clean and large enough, the beds comfortable, the staff pleasant and the amenities adequate. I would not hesitate to return or to recommend the Cove to others although I cannot say how it would be during the busier summer weekends. They do have a quiet time policy however.

Room Tip: We like a 2nd floor room on the end so there's no one over us or next door on both sides.

Online we booked a "small waterfront room" (months in advance) to attend a wedding in Orleans. When we arrived we were given Room 22, with a view we couldn't believe! Absolutely beautiful. The room was small, but very clean and comfortable. The shared deck outside our room was lovely, shaded by an overhanging roof, with a gorgeous view of the water. We sat out there quite a bit during our stay. Had our breakfast out there (muffins & coffee we went and got from the nearby Cottage St Bakery.) No restaurant on the premises. The desk person when we arrived couldn't have been nicer (he said it was his 1st day); he gave us some excellent suggestions for restaurants, as well as patient directions. Comfy king-size bed, very reasonable rate, I would definitely stay here again (and hope I get the chance to!) Another person we know was staying at The Cove the same night we were, they were in a room closer to the office - their room was the same price as ours, it had no view or deck, but was larger, with a sofa. If you go, get one of the waterfront rooms!

Room Tip: Rooms 22-25 are at the end of the property, on the right, in a separate waterfront building. The ro...

Not that it's not beautiful but, there were some questionable things....although it looked clean and classy we woke up scratching our legs and found there were either bed bugs or fleas in the bedding....I loved that it was right on the water but for that price they should have been certain that the rooms and bedding were washed after each new traveler...we ended up with welts and itching for the remainder of our stay...there was nothing they could do"....not even a discount.

Room Tip: the waterview rooms are nice but pricey

I am very shocked to read your comments and actually quite disturbed that this is the first time I am hearing these accusations since your stay with us last August.

With regard to bedding, we of course provide freshly cleaned sheets and towels for each new guest. I would hope that if there was anything about our linens that made you think they were not fresh that you would let us know so we could replace them promptly.

You write that there were either bed bugs or fleas in your bedding. This is a statement that every one of my employees takes very seriously. Our housekeeping staff has been trained to recognize any sign of bed bug activity. If something is found to be suspicious we would call a professional for further examination. In addition to staff inspections we proactively conduct quarterly canine inspections. The professional inspections that were done both before and after the 2011 summer season found no evidence of bed bugs.

With regard to the possibility of fleas-this is unlikely as we do not allow any pets. I would suspect that if someone had brought an animal into the room without our knowledge and caused a flea infestation that every guest staying in that room would be coming to the office complaining of flea bites. I have not had any complaints of bites nor have we ever had to treat any of our rooms for fleas.

I am dissapointed that instead of calling and speaking with me promptly regarding your experience and allowing us to investigate and rectify any problem, you have chosen to share your comments in this damaging manner.

My wife and I needed a change of venue but didn't have the time or money to travel far so we went from our Boston suburb to Orleans. On the recommendation of friends, we stayed at The Cove. Because of the season, the rates were low so we picked one of their best rooms that looked out directly onto the water... The room had a sleeping area (king bed) and a sitting area with a flat screen TV, sofa and a couple of easy chairs. We also had a private deck looking our to the cove. The motel was having some re-roofing done but our room was away from the action so we didn't hear a sound. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we had a lovely three day two night interlude.

Just spent a wonderful, warm week on the Cape at this quiet motel. Had a room that overlooks the cove. Being able to look out the picture window and watch the birds, sailboats, and water was relaxing and renewing. This is an older motel which is not a chain. The room was clean and showed evidence of regular maintenance. The motel is in walking distance of shops, the library, and restaurants. I'd return off season again.

Room Tip: Seek a water view room with a private balcony for the most privacy. The shared balcony was a bit aw...
