We loved this place - lake; mountains; walks; wildlife; swimming... what is not to like? It was very quiet on the day we visited and we only saw 4-5 other groups there - did a 2-3 hour walk with some good elevations and views and finished off with a really nice swim in the lake. Beautiful and enough of interest to keep everyone happy.

Nice ranger too ;-)

The Pond Trail Loop was easy to moderate in a few places to hiking for all ages (4-64!). It was beautiful; we found salamanders, tiny little frogs/toads on the forest floor, small mammals, and a mixture of birds and plant life. There were areas of the trail that were barely passable because of branch growth over-hanging into the path. It would be nice if it was trimmed back a little. The trails are not well marked either. Picnic area allowed sunny or shady picnic table choices. The beach is wonderful with a sandy bottom. There are surprise rocks located within the swimming area. They are great for kids to jump off, but if you are walking about be careful to not stub a toe! Facilities are clean and well kept.If you want a "bumpy and hairy" ride you could enter from South Lee; however, Monterey entrance is smooth and wide enough for 2 vehicles to drive. Monterey is longer, but takes about the same amount of time because South Lee way requires driving "slowly" and "weaving" about to miss rocks and gullies! All in all we had a 10 point trip!! : )

We went on a beautiful warm spring Easter afternoon for a hike around the pond. It is considered an easy walk. It was for the most part. I have a bad knee so there were a couple of spots where I needed help to get around. It is a very scenic walk. Very serene. There was a beach and bathrooms but we did not partake in the beach and the bathrooms were not open as the season hasn't started until May 1. You could tell that in the summer, it must be extremely beautiful with everything in full bloom or when its fall as the leaf colors are changing. Worth taking the hike.

There's just something about the woods in winter and ice on a pond! This is such a beautiful walk/hike around the pond; about 2 miles. It's relatively flat so an easy/moderate walk and good for dogs. In the winter you will need sturdy boots with spikes and/or traction cleats (such as Yaktrax); especially if there has been a thaw/freeze cycle. Today there were a few people out ice fishing. On chilly winter days bring some hot beverages and enjoy overlooking the pond from picnic tables.
