We all had the duck, which was excellent. The meals all came with salad, meat/seafood, veggies, rice, dessert and coffee/tea/soda for a reasonable price. And there was a vegetarian choice as well. If there are not enough people in your party to fill out the table, other people joined you. Many of the smaller groups were people hiking through Mt. Greylock, which is along the Appalachian Trail. We sat with one of the hikers, and really enjoyed her company. I would recommend making reservations, since there is limited seating and only one seating per night, not to mention the long windy trip to the top of the mountain. Well worth it. You might want to postpone the visit if the top of the mountain is socked in and/or there is a rainstorm. Or like us, you can go anyway. It's kind of cozy when the outside world is all fogged in.

I drove up the mountain and was staving. Went into the Bascom Lodge and was surprised they had such an extensive menu in this tiny kitchen. I opted for the Ranger Burger, cooked to order with Swiss, fried onions, red onions, mushrooms, tomato, lettuce on a nice roll. It was so filling I could not finish it but really enjoyed it. It as about $9.00 and came with a small scoop of homemade potato salad and a small cup of homemade cole slaw. You give the person at the cash register your order and name. Forks, knives, napkins extra are right behind you. Find a seat and they call your name when order is ready. Had a seat next to the window with a wonderful view. They have a tiny kitchen where they whip up the magic. Well worth it

Enjoy an Appalachian Trail experience by fortifying your hike with lunch at the Bascom Lodge at the peak of Mt Greylock. It's the real thing, wood and stone, built decades ago as an overnight rest stop for through hikers.

The dining room is nothing fancy and tables and chairs few and simple. But the views are lovely and there's something very peaceful and relaxing about this place.

You order at the counter and pay in advance. The food is brought to you when done. But that's the extent of service. You bus your own table (get your own water & tableware, bring your dishes back).

The food is good, simple, hearty fare made on the spot from fresh, local ingredients. Yet it's surprising. Both times I've been here, each chef made his own special touches to liven up what might look initially like a fairly standard lunch menu. I normally hate potato salad, but found myself eating it all.

The prices are a bit high given this is essentially self-service. But it's tasty and enough to fortify hours of hiking around---and of course everything has to be hauled up the mountain since there are no farms or stores in the park.

Very nice feature: lunch is served from 11am to 4:30pm. It's so rare to find a good place that caters to both early and late lunchers. And so helpful when you're hiking and don't want to have to rush just to get to the lodge on time.

The one thing marring this visit is that the tower is currently under construction, so the outdoor picnic tables were not an option and the noise could get annoying.

We are a family of four who enjoyed 1/2 a day hiking around Mount Greylock. On the summit is an old lodge, which is opent ot he public. The small restaurant is the only option, but thankfully the food was excellent. My wife and teenage son got burgers , my daughter a crilled cheese, and I got the Gruyere grilled cheese with sauteed onions and apples. All the sandwiches were tasty and prepared with fresh ingredients. Each also came with a side of coleslaw and potato salad which you could tell were homemade and not out of a mass produced bucket. If up on mt. Grey lock or hiking in the area this is an excellent stop for a quick meal.
