We stopped in here for lunch our fist afternoon in Hyannis. From the moment we walked in, we knew we had chosen the right spot. The inside was such a contrast to the blazing sun outside on Main Street, it took a minute for our eyes to adjust to the dimmer light, but right off we knew we had chosen a good spot... from the coolness of the air conditioning to the warmth of the hostess' greeting.
We chose to sit at the large bar, this is a magnificent piece of furniture, infact the wooden features throughout this building are impressive. The British Beer Company has tried to recreate some of the charm of an English Pub... especially cute were the enclosed booths that clearly were an interpretation on what the British fondly call "snug pubs". There is a large assortment of beers on tap, and several wines by the glass. I chose a crisp Pinot Grigio while my partner a "tall cold one". The beers were a mix of nationalities, but unfortunately no microbrewed options in the lot, so my partner was a little disappointed as he likes to try local beers whenever he can. However, the bartender was cheerful and helpful in advising him on the various offerings (as their name indicates they have several British Beers). He enjoyed the beer she recommended.
For lunch we shared "Mojito Grilled Shrimp" and "Vietnamese Shrimp Fresh Rolls". The Jumbo Shrimp were marinated in mint-rum-sugarcane and were served with bean sprouts, and a pineapple mango salsa (very spicy). The Shrimp Rolls were a combination of shrimp, fresh mango, cilantro, mint, carrots, beansprouts and noodles all handrolled in a delicate rice paper. They came chilled (not fried) and were served with a sweet red chili dipping sauce. It is my understanding that the Shrimp Rolls are made from scratch on-site, and are a very popular menu item, and that the restaurant frequently runs out of them part way thru the day. I have to say that we found the food delicious, and fairly light, a good choice for a late afternoon lunch.
We were happy we had chosen to stop in, and thought it great that there was a decent pub right on Main Street (that also happens to serve interesting fare) sitting admist all the other more upscale restaurants.
Our bartender was very friendly, she also took the time to tell us before we left that we should check back during our stay as they have entertainment in the evening.
