On a muggy afternoon, it was a pleasure to sit on the breezy terrace looking out over the marches and winding river in Essex. The lunch menu was unusually limited and looked like reduced menus of most restaurants in the area--fried or fresh shrimps, Caesar salad with or without additions, lobster roll, fried calamari, burgers and pizzas. We tried both shrimps --crispy Coconut (delicious) and fresh (which were soggy thawed), pizza (with mozzarella and fresh tomatoes), Caprese salad, Caesar salad with shrimps and house salad. Bread and butter were an appetizer course, but the bread was fresh baked. Caprese was made with excellent mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes. The Caesar with shrimp was pretty ordinary, but the pizza was original with no tomato sauce--only fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes with some Balsamic velvet drizzled over the top. It needed salt (and hot pepper for me) but was delicious with fresh-made crust.
Desset seemed simple--ice cream sandwiches! Homemade chocolate chip cookies with either chocolate, strawberry and/or vanilla ice-cream scoops between--incredibly good but messy. We tried all, and the plates were licked clean.
Given the setting, reservations are probably a necessity in the summer. But a wonderful spot and delicious meal awaits on a lovely day.

Wonderful place to have a summertime lunch. The lobster roll was very good but they charged a lot for it. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent as well. You can't beat the scenery. Great place to impress a date for lunch. Eat outdoors if you can.

I'm a local so I've been to every restaurant in Essex, multiple times. Finally tried Riversbend and loved it! First, the place is open, clean, bright, and smells fantastic from the moment you walk in. Gorgeous setting right on the river, but not tiny like Sheas and CK. You could have a crowd in here easy and not feel closed in. Deck is enormous and the scenery is top-notch. Nothing beats it. The menu is limited, but they're smart to stick with crowd-pleasers they're good at until they have enough experience to branch out. The burgers were great, the pizza was excellent. The clam chowder was the best I've had in town, maybe anywhere. Not sure about the bread service and although they were super-friendly, the servers took too long to bring appetizers & drinks. After that, the service was great. Top notch. We were really bowled over by how great this place was. Definitely going back for lunch and brunch. We tend to only eat out locally (Chain places suck, IMO). You're not going to get a more 'on the river' feel anywhere. Loved it.

Big disappointment. Small menu. Small portion. Very pricey. Waiter friendly. Very nice looking and clean restaurant. Was looking for more of a larger choice on menu. Be very surprised if they survive.

I am a member of CARC and we are totally please with the service and attention paid to our event. The wood fired pizzas for a crowd of 250 were constantly being pumped out. We had plenty of beverage to compliment the food, and eating on the deck after the race was just the right place, looking over the river while chilling with friends. Riversbend has made some changes to their facility and sound no longer is an issue, and the menu is totally reinvented. Brunch is amazing on Sundays, love the lobster eggs bene. All our racers complimented the new venue, Thank you Riversbend.
