A business associate was in town and suggested we meet him at City Perch for dinner on a Tuesday evening. This place is surprisingly easy to get to in North Bethesda, even with the traffic coming down from central Maryland at rush hour. Nicer still is the parking garage is located right next door - and the restaurant will validate parking.
City Perch is a spacious and visual treat, with a central bar, open style kitchen/cold bar, and a variety of tables and booths. As there was a light dinner crowd we were immediately seated at a nice table which provided views of Grand Park Avenue. Our drink orders were taken, and I opted for a large Heavy Seas Loose Canon (since I wasn't driving).
City Perch has a not-extensive dinner menu, but it still provides a variety of choices in the beef, chicken, pork and seafood offerings, along with a respectable selection of appetizers and salads. My two colleagues both ordered the Perch Burger, which despite its name - contains no fish, and is in fact a standard beef burger. I had the beef short ribs, which came with a potato pancake and some creamed spinach.
After only a short wait, our entrees appeared - which were all nice presentations. My short ribs were actually "boneless" short ribs and was nicely cooked piece of beef rib meat, which was very tender, but could have benefited from just little more flavor profile. Both the Perch Burgers and the shoestring fries looked good. Service was above average with our server checking on us periodically.
While I think we all gauged our entrees to be slightly above average, the City Perch is really more of a destination for the experience - which was decidedly pleasant. The dining room was very nice and the ambient noise level allowed for easy conversation and business discussion. For a similar purpose and under similar circumstances we would probably be willing to come back to City Perch for another business dinner in the future.
