Our room smelled like cigarette smoke. Nonsmoking and smoking rooms occupy the same floor. I don't know if anyone previously had been smoking in the room, but at the very least the smoke was circulating through the ventilation system. It was disgusting. It's 2012, time to get rid of the smoking rooms. If someone needs to light up that badly, they can go outside.

Otherwise, I would have no complaints about this hotel. The staff was nice, the location was convenient to downtown and campus and the room was comfortable.

Room Tip: Request a nonsmoking room that is not near to any smoking rooms if this bothers you. Our room was on the 3rd floor and it smelled like smoke despite being adjacent to other nonsmoking rooms.

My wife and I had a great stay here. It was just overnight as part of a trip, but I would not hesitate to stay here again for more than one night. The staff was very helpful and the greetings and smiles were genuine.

Room Tip: ask for a room that faces the mountains

Stayed here the night of 3/31/12. Can't find a single complaint with this place. Reservations by phone were easy and pleasant; employees at the night desk were fast, friendly and professional; elevator was crazy spacious; room was spotless and even smelled clean; beds were comfy and room was quiet; breakfast had a great variety of good food; and checking out took half a second, thanks to the pleasant and professional desk staff. Even the TV had tons of movie channels. If you're anywhere near Frostburg, don't pass this up!

We've stayed at the Hampton on several occasions when taking in the Alhambra Basketball tourament, held each March at nearby frostburg State. For us the Hampton is more convenient than staying in Cumberalnd or further west (e.g. Savage River, or Oakland). The hotel, as many here have noted, is pretty average and generic. There is a pool and a small workout room, we used the internet on a computer set up in a hallway.
THe construction on the lobby, which apparently had been going on since December was not finished and I could not figure what improvements had been made to the place.
The breakfast is decent, seemed to have been slightly upgraded from last year, though hardly sumptusous. There is the requisite waffle machine. We did not see the famed breakfast hostess (Carolyn?) who in past visitis was ubiquitous, in her attentions and in campaigning to be named Best Hampton Breakfast Hostess in the world , or something . She's already won once.
The hotel's location, even if you are not in town for the Tournament is a big plus. It is convenient to Frostburg and just off the Interstate, but is separated enough from the highway that you aren't continually aware of its presence. Our room looked out on fields and hills which added a nice bucolic touch.
The staff at the hotel is always pleasant and helpful (and of course there's Carolyn) and the rooms and common areas are clean.
New this year was a big HiDef TV with a huge assortment of channels courtesy of DirecTV.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side have a nice view.
