Description: The White Horse Restaurant is located in the hamlet of Hendrerwydd near Ruthin within the Vale of Clwyd, North Wales Surrounded by stunning scenery and overlooking the Clwydian hills, it's a place to leave the busy world behind and come and enjoy good food and a wide selection of beverages. With two roaring fires to cosy up too during the colder winter months and alfresco dinning on the decked area to enjoy the stunning scenery by candle light during the warmer summer months. Our 2014 menu offers a thoughtful take on British dining using a wide selection of seasonal and Welsh ingredients. We always keep two well looked after real ales, always one from microbreweries as close as possible to the White Horse.

We had visited the restaurant previously and had an excellent lunch so we were looking forward to our evening. The ambiance and the staff were first class but the quality of the food fell a little short of the quality we were expecting after our previous lunch experience. My wife's steak which was requested medium rare had to be sent back as it was served well done. The staff were excellent about it acknowledging it was not as requested and it was replaced but this put us out of sync with our meals as I finished my meal as my wife was only a third of the way through hers. The rest of the food was prepared well but seemed to lack that wow factor you would expect for food at the prices we were paying. Also disappointing was the fact that we appeared to have been charged £6 for two small bottles of chilled tap water. Something I only noticed when I looked at the bill later. As I say we had previously experienced great food there and it was probably just an off night re the food so it will not stop us giving the place another chance in the future.

Dropped in for lunch. A couple of well-kept pints of Dovecote beer at the beer, withe the Sunday papers, before being led to our (bright, cheerful) table. Sunday beef lunch for me, veggie option for her, both pronounced splendid. Good puddings too. Lovely service, nice vibe, very relaxed.

One star docked for the terrible music, which was cover versions of the slowed-down, earnest variety, artist unknown but I can only assume they were related to the landlord in some way. However this did not annoy too much, so chilled were we.

We went with a couple of friends who had been before and had recommended it to us knowing we are "foodies". Lovely cosy atmosphere and log fire on a very cold evening and comfortable seating whilst we were waiting to go to our table. Had salt baked beetroot and then duck breast which was lovely and tender and full of flavour. The other people at the table very much enjoyed their cod and the vegetarian main. Our first visit but definitely not our last. Thank you for a lovely dining experience.

Always a Wonderful Welcome from Lucy and her staff in this lovely traditional country pub. Set in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd, the fire is always aglow. You will travel far and wide for a better Sunday Roast. We just keep going back for more! Standards never slip!
