Popped in for lunch today (with dog) as heard had reopened. My husband grew up in the area but hadn’t been here for many years. We often frequent Hambledon and Turville but Freith is equally lovely. Firstly, pub has been refurbished to a lovely standard, retaining lots of character but with a quirky flair. Great wine selection by the glass as well as best of the local ales. Loved the menu - “gastro” without being pretentious! Good seasonal selection. Thoroughly enjoyed a couple of hearty starters and exceptional chicken- both in quality and cooking. Food was super and great value. Service was also very friendly, attentive yet informal. Extra points as dog enjoyed his bar biscuit and drinking from a sparkly clean bowl(one of the nice touches often overlooked by pubs)! It wasn’t too busy when we went so the staff kindly said we could leave the car for an hour and take the dog for a walk. It was an absolute pleasure to walk in “chitty chitty bang bang” Chiltern hills and valley especially as, with the chalky hillside it is way less muddy than the sludge us dog walkers endure everywhere else at the moment. Top marks from us and the dog!
