Let’s get right down to brass tacks...one reason to go to a Mexican restaurant is to have a Margarita. So you want a good one - good 100% Agave blanco, reposado or anejo blended with the right combination of lime, triple sec and mixer. Add to that a tasty burrito, tacos, tortas bueno or whatever delicious Mexican dish you prefer, add a side of guacamole or salsa (or both) and bueno, you have a great meal. El Reyo is the place to go if you want the best. Great service as well.

This restaurant once was as worthy as the original El Rayo, which graced an old Gas Station in Portland’s Old Port.

Now, sadly, it is but another watered down entity serving up tasteless slop on a taco, or, a burrito if you choose.

Service? Polite. Professional.
Food? Dreadful. Simply embarrassing.
Chances of our return? Slim to none.

If you want great Mexican food, go elsewhere. It’s out there.

People are always friendly, food is fresh, and delicious. the fried avocado burrito should be on the list of things to try. I get lunch here often and serve is fast, correct and always easy. Surprised its not busier than it is.

My daughter and I had a very nice dinner here on a busy Tuesday night. We started with the grilled pineapple. What an interesting taste - sweet, spicy and salty all in one! I had the chicken burrito - the avocado in it was delicious. A side of rice and beans was great too. She had the vegetarian special which was wrapped in a corn husk and came with a salad. A strawberry margarita with salt on the rim was terrific as well. I have eaten here before outside and think we might just need to return to do just that - once the weather warms up!
