Had reservations (necessary since it seats about 25 inside & it was too cold to go outside) and was seated on time. There was a large bachelorette party seated in the middle of the room and they were loud. With it being so small, it's just loud...like can't-have-a-conversation loud. My husband was dying for a burger and it came on focaccia bread and after one bite, all of the toppings fell out. He basically had to deconstruct his burger and eat it all separately. (When we told our B & B friend there about it, she said she had had a similar experience with the burgers) I got the fried chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. It came all on top of each other in an iron skillet. It tasted ok, but it was hard to see the veggies because of the black/oven marks on it on top of the black skillet. I almost think it would have been better on a plate? Everything was all about the "burnt"/open fire look/taste that just got a bit overkill. We laughed the next day as our clothes we wore there all smelled of that "burnt"/open fire smell. It's fru fru food, a bit overpriced and we didn't think it was worth it at all.

WOW, what a spectacular restaurant! Not knowing that we needed a reservation, as it's limited seating, we walked in on a Saturday night at 5:30ish and we were fortunate to sit at the bar (4 seats available) and got to watch the chefs cook and perform miracles with their dishes. They don't have much room to move around, but they do it with style and the dishes that come out of the small space were fabulous! We can't wait to go back and order something different (they have quite an extensive menu). Would love to sit there again, as that was quite impressive. Great job by all and we'd highly recommend this restaurant, but be sure to make a reservation!!!

Very large menu, great food, good service. I had the polenta with mushrooms which was cooked and served in a cast iron pan. The house made bread was plentiful, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. The owner introduced himself to us the next night at a different restaurant where he knew we'd be after talking with our guide, Dee from Coastal Maine Photo Tours. Fun trip to a small coastal community.

We typically like to try lots of different restaurants but our meal on Tuesday was so good and the place so funky that we came back the next night. We are "almost" vegetarians, but do fish from time to time. The Genteel Haddock was one of the best meals my husband has ever had. I had the Veggie Medley with tofu and it was delicious. The portions are enormous so you can share or take a doggie bag home. Our servers were both helpful and efficient (Maria and Edna). Decent wine selections by the glass topped off the meal. Many locals say it is the best place in town & we believe them.

This is a wonderfully creative restaurant with fascinating menu options. I need a gluten free diet and they waitstaff and kitchen crew seem well-informed and happy to help one navigate the menu. There is one major problem we have had everytime we have been there -- the portions are much to large. We are in the order what you want, eat what you order school. Wasting good food when so many people are hungry is a shame. I had the Sorta Kefka. The lamb was superbly spiced and the bed of greens had a delicious sauce. The serving was enough for two people (and we are not picky eaters). My wife had the fire-baked mac and cheese. This was also superb, but enough for three people. The serving sizes detract from quality of the food.
