Ok..I do understand it takes wind for a sailboat to move but when you pay $44 per person to see the scenery and you only make it a stones throw from the dock...literally around the closest private island and back that is disappointing. Our captain says after an hour in...so are we all ok enjoying are beautiful sunset just sitting here or do you actually want me to start up,the engine...the way he put it no one was going to speak up. Was hoping to see the light house but that was in the far distance. Also if you bring wine bring your own cups...they don't have extra onboard. Gorgeous boat but wish I could have seen things other than just the sunset.....

Took the sunset cruise last night from 5-7. The scenery was beautiful and the weather couldn't have been any better. We brought a bottle of wine and cheese with crackers. The crew was very nice, though they don't offer information unless asked. We knew that going into it, and actually preferred it that way. We wanted to relax and watch the sunset, and that's what we got to do! I do wish that the crew didn't have to "holler" so loudly at one another when performing the various tasks during the sail. Perhaps headsets or something? It was frequent and disruptive. Otherwise a nice little cruise around the area. Biggest complaint is that they count the time it takes them to get set up as part of the 2 hours for the cruise. We didn't leave the dock till after 5:15 and we're back at it by 6:45. So you're really only getting 1:30 worth of sailing time.

We have taken this 2 hour cruise pretty much every year for the past 5 or 6 years. The cruise is always relaxing, just as it was this time. The staff members (hands) were great. The issue that I had with the cruise is that you don't really get the time you paid for ($44). We set out around 3:45 for a 3:30 cruise went a ways out for about an hour and turned back in. The last 40 minutes or so consisted of a very slow float back to the dock.

We loved this. You can bring your own food and drink and for the sail. It's two hours of a beautiful ride around Casco Bay. The crew is really nice and the sights are just wonderful. Saw some seals while out on the water too.

One of my favorite activities I recommend for people to do when visiting Portland is to get out on the water. Sailing with Portland Schooner Co. is a marvelous and peaceful way to do this. The two hour sail is just enough time to fully take in the bay and enjoy the views of the city from the water. You'll see historic forts, lighthouses, islands and most likely, a seal or two. The crew is professional and courteous. It is not "narrated" but the captain and crew engage with passengers and answer any questions. You can bring snacks (maybe a bottle of wine...) on board too. Enjoy!
