“Small but lovely”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2012

There are many beautiful works of art by well known artists here. Every Friday from 5pm until closing, the museum is free. Be sure to see the sculputres that are on the ground floor towards the back before closing time.

“Nice, manageable museum”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2012

Lovely museum that's not too overwhelming. We were able to get through it in about 2 1/2 hours and didn't feel like we missed much, but I guess it depends on your particular interest in the current exhibition. It's not exactly a massive treasure trove, but really nice to visit (esp. to get in from the cold, heat, or rain).

“Great Regional Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2012

If you like regional art museums, this one is not to be missed. We spent 4 hours there on a rainy Saturday and saw the most of it. Lots of interesting American art, contemporary Maine art and a really good cafe for lunch in the lower level.

“Hidden gem of a museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2012

Perfect size for an afternoon. Varied exhibits, from very good Impressionist collection to Maine artists (who knew how many artists have Maine connections?), to current controversial exhibits. Not sure about the Facebook exhibit ("Are you my friend?") but it was thought-provoking. The old house attached to the museum is lovely to walk through. Good soups and sandwiches at the cafe. Parking in municipal lot close by. Would definitely visit again.
