““Best Cottages in Maine.””
Reviewed 10 May 2012

We have been coming to the Dunes for 15 consecutive years and stayed in numerous cottages….we love them all. Cottage suites are our favorite…fireplaces, and fully equipped kitchens. Beautiful quiet grounds, exceptionally clean, dependable, and they always maintain the same high quality. You are in the middle of everything, but feel far away from the crowds. This is my wife’s “place” but now friends and extended family join us every year. We normally come in Oct, but this year we tried May. It is beautiful in the spring as well. We prefer shoulder season to avoid the large summer crowds. This is not a resort with all the high tech amenities; this is a home away from home. In the cottages, you do your own housekeeping and linen exchange. Hotel units have daily maid service. If you want a unique Maine Experience…come to the Dunes.

We returned in September 2011 with our grown children and grands, along with my mom-four generations of "Dunes-lovers". We started going there in 1978 and have tried to return as often as possible. We often have friends join us, which makes our stay even better. Having grown up in Maine, The Dunes is the epitome of " a week at the cottage, ayuh", to me. We had 3 cold, rainy days and even they were better than sunny days in most other places on earth. Thank you again, to The Perkins Family and staff.

Room Tip: No way....they can learn from their own experience. Actually, they're all good, but if you can g...

We booked a guest cottage for two to celebrate a milestone birthday in October and found The Dunes to be an absolute treasure. The manager marked our special occasion with small gifts and a heartfelt note, rounding out the beautiful location with exemplary service. We stayed for three nights and would have stayed longer if we could. The peaceful setting, morning coffee on the dock, and the manicured but natural grounds offered one of the best getaways we've had. The kitchen, bed, and bath were very clean, and the kitchen included basic cookware (though we didn't use it, it looked more than serviceable). Not surehow crazy the location would feel in the summer time, but for a romantic off-season visit, try The Dunes. Consider eating outside the Ogunquit area, though, as we encountered poor service and lousy food at the nearest restaurants.

Room Tip: Check out the website for descriptions of each cottage...and while the water is close to all, some c...

After spending two weeks in comfortable but large hotels this was a wonderful find. As has been said before the grounds are so well maintained and with the cottages spread out it is very relaxing. Being right on the beach was an added bonus even thorough we stayed in October and it was getting cold the beach always adds to the experience. There is a great walk along the beach front.
We stayed in a cottage without a kitchenette as is was for just one night. The furnishings were comfortable and appropriate for what it is. The bed was very comfortable and the heating worked well!!
Definately visit Angelinas Italian restaurant down the road. Beautiful food and great service.

Room Tip: Large variety of rooms and cottage types. Ask to see what is available, you won't be disappointe...

Great location....we walked to the Lobster Pound for dinner and the Egg and I for breakfast. We had our wine on the lawn and watched the Atlantic at sunset. Fairly close to town. Rooms were clean, but without charm.
