We stayed for one night in the Richard Russo cottage. The location of the inn is truly spectacular, and the grounds are compact, beautifully maintained and lovingly landscaped. We especially appreciated the log-burning fireplace in the cottage, and the fact that logs, kindling and a lighter were provided to make the fire-making painless. Also, the bed was very comfortable with lovely, luxurious linens. The porch with wicker rocking chairs was also a highlight of the cottage.

One criticism: For $500 a night, we thought the bathroom could use an upgrade. Although it was definitely spacious and clean and included a two-person jacuzzi tub, it would benefit from a modernizing luxury renovation. We expected to have a bathroom comparable with the one we had at Hidden Pond (the boutique hotel we had just left in Kennebunkport). I know that a big chunk of what you pay for is access to the view - which is exceptional - but if I were to do it again, I'm not sure the cottage was worth the extra dough. Staying in the main house for a lower price would've allowed us to still enjoy the incredible view and the yummy, water-view breakfast at a slightly less exorbitant cost.

The location of the Inn at Sunrise Point is just perfect. It is footsteps away from the water and surrounded by trees. It is hard to take your eyes off the water, whether you are in your room, on the porch, at breakfast or on an adirondack chain on the lawn. It really is one of the nicest views in Maine. Plus, this in a very intimate and quiet inn, you can really enjoy the peaceful setting as opposed to many of the other waterside accommodations which were huge with large/loud kid's pools.
We stayed in the Rachel Carson room which was thoughtfully decorated in a simply but tasteful manner-- dark hardwood floors, white walls, high quality linens and pillows in deep shades of blue, making the view of the ocean the focal point. You could watch the sea from your bed, the deck as well as the bathroom! The bathroom had a brand new high tech jacuzzi tub with plenty of bubble bath, stacks of fluffy white towels and loads of light.
It was nice being able to purchase a glass of good quality wine, which we enjoyed with complementary nuts on our deck in the evening. A lot of inns require you buy an entire bottle (to avoid waste I suppose) or it is difficult to find someone to help you out. The staff at Inn at Sunrise Point was always on hand to happily provide any service required, answer questions or just chat. They never seemed too busy to help, which was so nice as I imagine running an inn at this high level of perfection requires many hours work.
The gardens are beautifully manicured and rimmed in bushes and flowers. There is even a hammock at the waters edge. A gate takes you down to a rocky Maine beach.
We were close to Camden, one of our favorite waterside villages in Maine. There you could see the boats, visit some cute shops (way less tacky than Kennebunkport or Bar Harbor) and walk through the residential streets admiring the beautiful old white wooden houses.
When we requested to dine at a simple local seafood restaurant, the owner made reservations for us at Chez Michel. This is a great choice for a casual lobster dinner with friendly local service. If you sit upstairs you even have an ocean view. We also ate at Primo, but although it was good, and I love that fact that everything was home made and home grown, the food did not live up to its reputation.

Room Tip: Fitz Henry Lane had the view which was most private and closest to the water

Very expensive if you want the best views of the ocean, but Sunrise Point delivers on services and amenities. The rooms are not large, however they are very well appointed with particularly nice bathrooms and bedding.

The owner and staff are among the most hopsitable and helpful of those we have encountered in many years of bed and breakfasting- and they went out of their way to assure that everything was perfect. Breakfasts were outstanding and not skimpy. Different each day. Fresh Maine wild blueberries in season, flawless poached eggs, Belgian Waffles, roasted potatoes, sausages, great scones, really good coffee- all professionally served in a conservatory overlooking Penobscot Bay. The place is exceptionally quiet except for the sound of the ocean, but only 5 minutes from downtown Camden (yuppified but still retaining some Maine seaport charm), and not far from the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, the Windjammer cruises, Mt. Battie overlooking Camden Harbor and a lot of better than average restaurants.

We look forward to returning in the near future.

My husband and I stayed three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our vist. As other reviewers mentioned, the owner and staff could not have been more helpful. The only problem is that the breakfasts are so good you tend to plan your day around them; not wanting to miss one. I did hear Daina, the owner, offer to package a breakfast to go for a couple that wanted to get an early start though. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.
I was a little concerned when I made the reservation that the only room we could get was the E.B. White room (the smallest room). I was very impressed with the room however. While smaller than the others, the balcony and view were fantastic and the bathroom (the really import part) was a very nice size. I would not hesitate to stay there again. As a matter of fact my husband has already stated that he would like to visit again next year.
A really nice touch that I appreciated is that they keep your room stocked with bottled water and soft drinks. In addition, ice tea and cookies are available all afteroom in the dining room.

If you are looking for perfection on the mid Maine Coast, stay here. The staff, the accomodations, the service are beyond perfect. The rooms are superb, spotless, beautifully decorated and welcoming. We held a very small wedding ceremony on the grounds and the team at Sunrise Point went out of their way to take care of details we didn't even ask for. The location is beyond words --nestled in the trees, the coast line is tremendously beautiful here and the overall feeling is sheer serenity. I will come back over and over again. Thank you Daina, Lois and Autumn for making our trip magnificent.
