On a dreary grey day, needing to eat before an eye appointment, we decided to eat at this place, it has been reviewed and loved by many. It was on the quiet side when we arrived and stayed that way, again it was a Nov. Tues. I was worried about the food as I like a hopping kitchen when dining out.
There are two parts, a walk up area with seating and a cantina, sit and get served area with big windows and the bar. We had time and chose the cantina, but can state that the walk up area, was buy the entire time we were there as local folks ordered their lunches to go or for a quick sit down.

We did not partake in alcoholic drinks as we had a busy afternoon, but were delighted at the Mexican soda and Jarritos available! Fundido was wonderful, a bit much for two for sure, but delicious, chips are made there as well. Only thing that took a bit of my fifth star away was that the tamale was a bit on the cool side at the center, and slightly dried out with unbalanced filling dispersion (as you can see I am nitpicking here, butI do love a good tamale). Our meals, three of them we delightful, filling and delicious! Burrito was huge, three tacos satisfying and the burrito bowl (which can be made out of any of the burritos) was exactly what my daughter wanted. Server was attentive and very nice! Rest room was cute and perhaps a bit snug on a busier day...

There were two self serve sauce stations...great for those that like to mix and match heat....pico is extra and served to the table.

Th dessert, well...worth the trip ANYTIME...the Coconut pudding was absolutely remarkable, as we were sad we could not eat another one...and the flan, how I like it, homemade, creamy and dense. The was a divine richness to it...adored both!

Extremely pleased we tried this place, cannot wait to return!

If you are looking for a more "Americanized" version of Mexican food, this isn't the place. It is more of what I consider authentic or tex-mex food from where we are from. My husband liked his enchiladas and i thought the rice and beans were okay, I was just a little disappointed in the amount of food. However, we could just be use to the over-sized portions that we get at our local Mexican spots; no leftovers here. All in all not a bad experience but if we went back we would do the full service side. If you aren't familiar with the place, the self service area can be a little overwhelming as the menu is big and right when you walk in so you can feel rushed to make a decision. So, full service is probably better for new customers.
They were very busy so it's obviously a popular place for locals! :)

So glad you enjoyed it! There are also printed menus on the self service side, so that customers can sit for a minute to decide.

We've been visiting when we could since they opened (we're 45+ min away). We've brought out-of-state visitors here because the food was SO good, especially the BBQ pork -- and even Texans agreed!
Today, the pork had large junks of fat, larger chunks of gristly pork - 2" in a taco, with sauces that were hideously spicy, even the supposedly unspiced watery avocado sauce - and who wants a watery sauce on their taco?! The chile relleno was nice in the narrow part, but farther up, the cheese was cold and hard, and really, the meringue slid off the poblano, so you could eat eggs or pepper but not together. Last time we were there, the Banh mi taco was well-balanced, but today it was incendiary, overwhelming all other flavors and leaving the same one who ordered it before ith a very upset stomach. And, the beans and rice had NO flavor, plus the rice was hard and undercooked. Staff was pleasant enough, but never apologetic for the oversights. All in all, a serious disappointment.

Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback. I will definitely be sharing it with our kitchen manager. Although we trim the pork cut that we use, it looks as though we need to trim it a bit more. As for the heat of the food, as we use fresh, seasonal ingredients, we are subject to the heat fluctuating. We try to adjust as much as possible. I think that is probably what you are referring to with the Bahn Mi.
I hope that if you have been with us so faithfully for so many years, that you would give us another chance to win you back.

This restaurant is a long building that appears to be a series of add on to the building, a funky look that works for this restaurant. We were there for dinner and it was busy. Waitress was friendly, but very busy. We split small nachos for 6.49 and enchiladas rojas (10.49)which was perfect for two to split. The nachos had a decent amount of cheese and veggies. The enchiladas were hardy. The pineapple Moscow ($10) was delicious and refreshing.

So Loco Coco's opened in October, 2004. We started in one room in a boat yard building, the room that is now our cantina. We then purchased the rest of the building and converted it to a kitchen/prep area and self service. Then we added on the full service dining room and then the all season porch. So it is indeed a series of add ons. We think it gives us character and it tells our story.

Glad you enjoyed the food as well!!

Interesting set up with a take out side and then dining side. We went dining room side. Awesome beer list. Margarita options a plenty. As others have said, no chips waiting for you at the table. Boo. Have seen this before at places and do feel that it must help keep prices low (which they are). So we got the queso fundito ( think that was the name). Although tasty, the cheese was too thick and you needed to almost cut the cheese out of the bowl. I was expecting a more creamy dip based on having this at many other places. The chips are made in house, ours had NO salt on them, which was odd.
Entrees I had the carnitas burrito, but the brought me a chicken one. They remade mine and it was pretty good! Wifey had beef enchiladas which were bland at best.

Verdict? We won't go out of our way to be back. If an encore occurs, it will be for carnitas tacos!
