We recently stayed at the Port Inn in Kennebunk Maine. We booked online based on the reviews. For the cost (roughly $400 per night), I went in with a certain expectation. Upon arrival, we found that the motel was your average roadside lodging. It was typical motel style, and was off of a busy road where we heard traffic at all hours (we had a room in the first building off the road.) It was not within walking distance to the local attractions or most local eateries which meant that we were always in the car if we wanted anything. Note: If you have allergies to animals, be sure to let them know in advance as we found out upon checking in that there are only FOUR rooms in the complex that are NOT pet-friendly. Fortunately, the desk clerk was able to change us to one of those rooms. Positives: Lobby, food area and room were clean and clean is definitely good. The young woman at the desk was professional, friendly and very helpful. No issues with the staff at all. Negatives: As many others have noted, the breakfast offerings are sparse. There were no hot offerings, no yogurt, no hardboiled eggs or any protein to speak of. Despite covid precautions, it is still possible to provide prepackaged yogurt and boiled eggs as well as multiple fruit options (apples, bananas, oranges.) It would have been nice to have some healthy breakfast choices. We found a bowl of oranges, some prepackaged muffins, granola bars, packages of oatmeal, and some bread for toast. None of it appealed to us so we had to drive into town each morning for breakfast. I have had better offerings at every other hotel I have stayed at - many at a much lower price point. As many reviewers have made note of the poor breakfast offerings, I am curious as to why the management has not addressed this. The motel is not walkable to the local attractions and its location, while decent, is not optimal if you enjoy parking at the hotel and not having to drive to everything. Our biggest issue was with the price point vs. what we received. This is an average motel, in an average roadside location, with below average breakfast offerings, yet it is $400 per night. This is a perfectly adequate motel, but for $400 per night, it is priced too high for what it offers. Not quite clear on all of the 5 star reviews, it isn't anything special. If you are ok paying above average prices for average lodging, then you will likely find it suitable enough. We found better options in the area at this price point. Unfortunately, our non-refundable reservations did not allow us to move to another location during this visit.

Room tip: If you want to avoid road noise, ask for a room in one of the building in the back off the main road.

Comfortable and clean - a few miles from downtown - away from the frenzy. Several beaches within a few miles.
Hotel had beach towels and chairs on loan as well. Quiet place, with heated outdoor pool. multiple chairs and tables under the trees for reading, relaxing, or games. (we did all 3)

The room smelled like smoke even though it was advertised as non smoking. Air freshener was used to cover the smell. The room was small, and dark. The exterior doors were dirty with fingerprints. The pool did not look at all like it does on the website. As soon as we opened the door and went into the room, my sister and I looked at each other and said “we gotta get outta here”. My sister went to get a refund and we went up the street to Hampton Inn in Wells …. Wow, what a difference! From trash to class.

The hotel is cuter than a standard motel from the exterior, but motel it is in terms of breakfast choices. Nothing hot except for premixed coffee (with added sugar) and water for tea. Prepackaged oatmeal and pastries. The minimalist approach including room service every other day.

Room tip: The corner rooms seem quieter with better view of the landscape

We stayed 2 nights at Port Inn and it was exceptional. Staff was great, room was spotless, quiet safe area and close to everything. At breakfast at a small cafe close by called Square Toes and it was great. Also at at Billy's Chowder house in Wells. Worth the 15 minute drive. Both places were recommended by the locals. Absolutely would stay here again
