Being a Harry Truman buff I was excited to discover the Brewster Inn while planning a recent trip to Maine. I was not disappointed! But beyond being able to stay in the room that Mr. Truman slept in during his 1942 visit, but were pleased with the treatment and care given to you. Mark and Tina went out of their way to make recommendations and changes in our accomendations to make our visit extra special. A little off of Interstate 95, it is worth the effort. The local guide (Ed) that Mark referred us to was excellent. Thanks Mark and Tina for a super visit! Sanford and Diane

After many years of dreaming of a trip to New England, we finally made it. We wanted explore Maine without having to change lodging every night and The Brewster Inn was perfect! We spent four nights in the Honeymoon Suite which is spacious and well appointed. Bed was so comfortable and being able to relax in the sitting area made our evenings very nice. The gardens are amazing and we enjoyed strolling through them as we had our coffee in the mornings.

The Inn is a historic home and Mark and Tina have done an amazing job preserving the period furnishings and decor of the time, while making a comfortable and cozy place to stay. Breakfast was amazing every morning and the one morning we had to leave early for a tour, they graciously provided a light breakfast for us.

Small town American is the heart of this country and we love focusing our travel in these towns. Dexter is a small town in the middle of Maine that appears to be in the process of revitalization. In our conversations with Mark, it is evident that he is very invested in making Dexter a destination for travelers like us who want a quiet place to base their visit.

When we made our reservations, Mark asked what we were interested in doing during our visit and made suggestions of things we might be interested in. I am so thankful for his suggestions especially for the Stephen King tour which is something I would never have sought out. Additionally, we wanted to get to the Coast, the Highlands and to the Bangor area, which is ambitious for a 4 day visit. Every afternoon, Mark asked us what we wanted to do the next morning and each morning he was prepared with maps and tips for our day. We saw so much more than if we had set out unprepared and left looking forward to a return visit.

Having managed a B&B for several years, my husband and I know the effort it takes to provide the level of comfort and service that Mark and Tina provide. It is indeed a labor of love for them and it shows in every facet of their operation.

Thank you Mark and Tina, we look forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: The Honeymoon Suite is a corner suite on the main level. Small fridge & microwave in separate sitting room are very nice.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review! We are so pleased that you not only accomplished your dream trip to New England, but that you also stayed 4 nights with us. We think the Honeymoon Suite is great for one night stays, but even more so for multiple night stays.

We agree 100% that small town America is the heart of the country. We fell in love with this house, but with this town as well. We think its in the most beautiful setting and we are so excited about the town's future. We drove down town this morning and saw them pouring new sidewalks and it made us so excited to see yet another improvement. A new boat ramp was put in recently as well, allowing even more access to the gorgeous lake here in town.

It makes us so happy that you got to see so many areas of Maine while you were here. The state is just so special and has such a variety to offer visitors. The Stephen King tour is pretty special, we had told many guests about it, but only found the time to take it ourselves this summer and are so glad we did!

Thank you for your kind words, we do love what we do and being able to share our historic home with others. We look forward to your next visit!

We have no idea where to start with our review. All the other reviews say it all. This B&B is a perfect Maine get-a-way, quaint, romantic, lovely, very personal, but still private. Interesting history and Tina and Mark, the owners who live there themselves, are available for all kinds of information. Breakfast was very good with a home made casserole and cake (yummy); with linnen tablecloths and napkins, real plates, cups etc. and silverware. No disposables worth to mention. They did a marvelous job renovating the inn and keeping it original. Our bedroom was very nice with a big private bathroom with shower, thick white towels and bathrobes. Although the inn was totally booked we did not hear the other guests. We'll go back when we are in that area again in Maine. Our compliments and thanks go to Tina and Mark.

Thank you so much for posting your review! We love hearing that our guests enjoyed their time with us. We are blessed to be able to honor the history of the house and share it with our guests. We enjoy meeting guests from all over the world and hosting them while they are here. We try to make guests feel as comfortable as possible, which is why we choose the bedding and pillows we did, as well as providing the thick towels and robes. We strive to make breakfast a little decadent with casseroles that you may not make for yourself every day at home, and that also fill you up so you have a great start for whatever plans you have for the day. Thank you again for your kind words and we hope to see you again when you get back to Maine.

The room is totally fine, and the service is reliable. It is pretty much the only option in the area. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast each morning was acceptable. All in all, it does the job. Guests should note the town itself is run-down, but that can't be held against the hotel (just would note that if you've never been to Dexter).

Thank you for your review. While there may be other options in the area, we pride ourselves in believing we indeed offer the best option. Dexter is like many small towns in Maine (or anywhere in the US)- definitely not where people visit for the town so much, but more for the location and experience. Dexter being in the center of Maine makes it perfect for whatever area of Maine guests want to visit, being easily accessible, most less than an hour's drive. Which is why guests on vacation often stay with us for numerous nights and use us as their base so they don't have to continually pack and unpack. People love Maine for the many outdoor activities available, and Dexter and the surrounding area has several opportunities for hiking, moose, wildlife and wilderness tours, kayaking, rafting or just relaxing on public beaches and swimming in the lakes.. For guests who are here during our normal breakfast hours, we offer a large buffet with many options, including a daily hot dish that is a sweet or savory decadent casserole. Guests who are here on business, and must leave early before breakfast, can get some basics to start their day, such as coffee, bagels/muffins, cereals, etc. and we try to provide other desired items when requested. We hope to see you again if work finds you in our area in the future.

We stayed 6 nights in the Blue Hatherly room .It was decorated like a cottage by the sea..The bath had more than ample storage and a dresser and a roomy closet outside. My favorite was the jacuzzi tub that I used 5 of the 6 nights I was there. The room had a comfortable futon and a TV as well as a small refrigerator that was very useful as well as a microwave.. As other reviews have stated,Mark and Tina are gracious hosts and their care
of this beautiful historic home shows their respect of its history..
I like that Mark reaches out to his guests before you arrive also. I felt that was personable and smart on his part making you feel welcome and comfortable .
(Oh and the bed was super comfy and pillows fluffy) (I usually like to use my own but didn't even bother taking in from car) The breakfasts were yummy and timely and the dining area was well organized and very clean.
I like the area a lot as I like to hike and take walks that challenge me. We got good advice from both Mark and Tina on different points of interest in the area. I recommend this B and B highly.

Thank you so much for posting your review! We love when guests are here for several nights and make themselves at home while they explore all Maine has to offer as you all did. That room is wonderful for long stays with its quiet location, and as it does have a nice sitting area, the fridge/microwave. The jacuzzi tub is great for relaxing and we're so pleased you were able to enjoy it during your stay. One of the reasons we always contact guests prior to their stay, is to be sure we can offer any help wanted or needed to ensure guests have the best possible trip, whether they're staying 1 night or 15. We hope to see you all again in the future!
