Owner description: Short walking trail leading to a scenic and rugged rock.

If you like to visit lighthouses like we do, this is worth the trip just to wonder up the path for the view. Not much to see at the lighthouse itself - but Castine is a pretty little village worth visiting. Be aware that the home next to the lighthouse is private property.

Any trip to Maine needs to include lighthouses. Beautiful location with easy access to the well maintained path. Lighthouse itself is privately owned but you can walk around.

My husband and I both went to Maine Maritime Academy and enjoyed walking the short foot path to Dyce's head. Sneakers are recommended but I have walked it with sandals. My husband brought our 7 month old son in a carrier during our visit for alumni weekend. Bring a picnic lunch or dinner and enjoy the views of Penobscot bay. Sunset views are also breathtaking.

I felt like I was intruding on the light house owners private property. There needs to be some signage for a clearer direction to the proper paths.

Go to Fort Madison instead (at the end of Perkins Street, just a footpath between two houses down to a lovely open space. From there you get a delightful view if sailboats out in the pretty harbor, & kids can run up & down the old earthworks of the fort. Great place for a picnic or stop on an around-the-town amble.
