“Not worth the money for "Standard Park Home"”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2012

Grade of D: "Standard Park Homes": dirt, poor quality, old, small, uncomfortable, over priced.
I would not recommend the "Standard Park Home" to anyone. We rented the "Standard Park Home" for two nights. Our experience was so bad we did not stay the second night.

We rented a cottage close to the beach, cottage was very clean and plenty of room for my family of 5, the price for 4 nights 5 days was a little over $950. I found this to be very reasonable considering the camp offers something for the kids and adults from 8am to 10 pm, I got a little caught up in the negative reviews before we left for vacation, but I can truly say the staff was great from the time I booked the trip until we check out. We will be looking forward to returning to point sebago next summer.

My family has been going to Point Sebago for the last 10 years, a large group of friends talked us into trying it out, so we bit and tried to rent on short notice, there were no units anywhere near the water, so we ended up renting a unit near the golf course, very hot over there!
The next year we rented from an owner who had a nice shaded spot, also near the golf course, but at least this one had AC.
All our friends had units on the water at the end of Lagoon way, we still couldn't get one for our chosen week, and ended up on the island, nice improvement!
The next year we lucked out and one opened up right in the middle of our friends, we now had the whole beach to ourselves!
In the early years, the staff was great, very friendly and attentive, especially the lounge staff.
Patti the bar manager was excellent, she knew how to treat guests, and all the wait staff was friendly and worked hard.
Security was good back then, they were visible, but didn't overstep their responsibilities.
As the years past, things began to change, the units were always dirty on arrival, they stopped picking up trash, the daily newspaper stopped, security became overbearing, and the biggest thing, they hired a new restaurant manager right out of college, and told Patti that she had to answer to him, she left, and things over there have never been the same.

We arrived last year, and headed over to the Tiki Bar, only to find that they didn't have a full bar selection available, we were told to go into the lounge and ask for the brand of top shelf liquor we wanted, (and had always been able to get here in years past) only to be told that they no longer serve it, "we don't have that type of clientel" the bar manager told me, no offer to get some, or even an apology, just rudeness.
We took matter into our own hands and didn't go back to the bar all week.
I just feel sorry for the wait staff who work their butt's off to make tips, I think we put a few of them through college!
We did bring our concerns to upper management who met with us and promised things would improve, we are scheduled to return in the next few weeks and will see if what they promised will come true.

Room Tip: Try for water front if at all possible!!!

They really have one of the best locations in Maine. The beach is beautiful. The resort is beautiful and well maintained. However, the prices for these cabins are very steep, especially since they do not provide linens or towels. Those in our group who paid the $15.00 fee for linens got paper thin low quality linens. We could have gone out to Walmart and just bought some for that price/quality. Also, the walls were paper thin and if you were in bed and someone else was up, the whole place shook when they walked around.
I stay every year at a LOG cabin, which is basically a really nice 3 bedroom house in South Dakota in an even nicer loaction and they change or make our beds every day, provide fresh towels and freshen up our cabin and the price is lower than Point Sebago.
Overall, the place is nice if you have a lot of extra cash and there are people willing to pay it because the place was fully booked, however I think I will look around more the next time I stay in Maine.
