“My first experience in a B & B and lived up to everything I expected”

This place was everything I could have possibly imagined for a first class Bed and Breakfast. Though it was very expensive, it was worth doing at least once, and we liked it so much we booked an extra night on our way back through Camden, Maine. I'm pretty limited in the foods I will try but I loved everything the chef had chosen for dinner the first night we were there. From the appetizers and cocktail selection during the early evening cocktail hour with other guests to the 4 course meal with wine and coffe for dessert, everything was perfectly prepared. The presentations were beautiful but the real treat was to the palate. I believe we have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the country and this may have been the best meal I have ever had. I can't say enough about the food. Our room, The Lavender Room, was equally satisfying. It was a two room suite with bed and half bath on one side and the shower/tub and living area with fireplace on the other side. The decor was cozy and classy but the bed was the greatest feature. I loved the mattress and linens so much I didn't want to get out of bed. There was plenty of privacy though we were in a full house. Breakfast the following morning was beyond anything I could have expected and by far the best I've ever had. We were served fresh juice, a combination of OJ and Cranberry, a parfait of granola, banana bread, yogurt tossed with fresh fruit....mostly blueberries as this was their season. The main course was a delicate pancake served hot in the skillet with delious fruit and toppings. The china and silverware and overall atomosphere was one of complete elegance. Finally the location is dead in the center of town and we walked to the docks and watched the sailors and fishermen readying thier boats for the day. We could have booked a sailing from the little harbor but the weather was not in our favor so we hiked the Camden State Park instead.

Room Tip: Ask for the Lavender room.

We were blessed with the opportunity to dine at the Hartstone Inn one evening on vacation. Chef Michael crafted the most amazing 5 course meal. The evening ranks as one of the most memorable times of our marriage. The staff was phenomenal and I can not say enough about the food. Chef came and said hello after the dinner and was so nice. I wish we lived in Maine so we could make this happen a couple of times a year. We were not fortunate enough to stay at the Inn however the downstairs and gardens are fantastic and I am sure with the quality of staff your stay would be exceptional.

We've stayed at the Inn several times in the past but it just gets better.
We met another couple from Oregon for two nights and, like us, they
loved it. The restaurant is as good as you'll find anywhere. We scheduled
our meal the first night and it was wonderful as were breakfasts both
days. The second evening we were planning on eating out but our
friends said that they would like to eat at the Inn again if they could
accommodate us. The hostess checked with the chef and he said that,
with the exception of the appetizer, we'd be fine and he made a special
appetizer for my wife which was great.

Our friends commented that the Hartstone set a new standard for B & B's
and that the restaurant was one of the best that ever experienced. We
agree completely.

The rooms are very comfortable and very well appointed. Just a great place
to stay.

Room Tip: The rooms in the main house can be a LITTLE noisy because of road traffic on Rt 1.

We absolutely loved Camden. Arrived on July 4th. Had time to lazily tour the park and hunker down own the Smiling Cow balcony with complementary coffee. It was a thrill to hear the Army Band play in the amphitheater and then to drop in to the Hartstone Inn. Beautifully appointed room, with a happy hour, and alot of class. We enjoyed the other guests. Breakfast was superb, living up to Michael's reputation. He's got a flair for food, a passion to share with you. Mary Jo was a gem, despite a broken hand. We loved it.

Don't hesitate to stop by and stay for awhile.
