We stayed here in October for a visit to Bowdoin to visit our son at the school. I was neither impressed or disappointed in the stay. The Hotel offered a generous discount for parents of students at Bowdoin from the published rate which in all fairness the discounted rate is at the high point of what this type of Hotel should command. The Hotel advertising being steps to Bowdoin and its probably at least 1/4 mile walk across a few busy intersections. We were not able to walk there during our stay due to weather, and or proximity of where we were headed but it is possible say you wanted your student to walk to visit you. The continental breakfast is less than spectacular with no offer of hot anything other than coffee. The guy stocking the muffins was using a used seafood container to replenish the muffin dish one morning. The beds shower and overall quality of the room were more than comfortable and the linens towels and soaps were good but not great for a higher end stay. There is a mini fridge in the room but no microwave. The hotel is steps to Maine street on the northern end and can be a decent location weather permitting for walking to and enjoying the Brunswick downtown amenities. The hotel elevator is marked as not meeting standard, and the stairwell carpet was black from foot traffic which is kind of to be expected I guess.

My husband and I stayed at The Daniel while on vacation. The room was nice, but as others have mentioned, it faced the highway, and with that came noise. Luckily, we always travel with a white noise machine that blocked out the busy traffic. So, if you stay here and don't get a room away from the highway, I highly suggest you bring a white noise machine with you.

The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. Terrible. Dry and over heated frittata and coffee in a cup stained with lip stick - not mine. Eck. We decided the next day to head to the hole in the wall Brunsick Diner down the road. Much better.

Overall, it was an average stay at an average place.

Room tip: Book a room away from the highway.

The hotel is lovely with an incredible staff. Staying here is always pleasant. The restaurant has a wide variety of entrees, and has a interesting small plates menu for those of us without big appetites.

A clean property with great rooms and friendly service. They made accomodations for us traveling with child and were able to add a trundle to the room. The property just off Maine street with easy access to all the stores and restaurants.

We thought this looked like a classic, romantic hotel. First impression was that the freeway was AWFULLY close to the hotel (little did we know our room was facing the freeway). The room was called a suite, but that only tells you there was an extra wall with a door between the small living area and the small bedroom -- barely enough room to walk around the bed. But, the thing that really did it for us was the shower. It is a large, tiled shower with two shower heads in the ceiling with rain shower heads. Useless for rinsing hair or soap off your body, so they put in a hand-held also which turns off the over head showers... Whoever thought of this obviously never used it. The elevator had a sign on it - not to be removed - from about 9 months earlier stating that it was in need of maintenance. The desk clerk assured us it was being worked on, but we opted for the stairs. Another indicator is that the landscaping was in dire need of work... Pick a different hotel.

Room tip: Ask for a room on the front side of the hotel, and possibly at the top so you have some view.
