“Never disappointing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2011

We hadn't been to this restaurant for a while, but it still had the same great service and wonderful food. Overall a pleasant dining experience. Some seating is better than others for a view of the harbor, but you still see it out there. So pretty at night as the lights come on. The service was attentive and pleasant. The prices are typical of the restaurants in the area of this caliber. It's location is a short walk over the bridge to shops and artwork across the harbor.

“Don't waste your time or money”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2011

We were there the night that Hurricane Irene passed through that area, however, the huricane had gone inland and there was just a little rain and some wind. They had closed down the hotel restuarant, bar, most services and everything was dark, meaning no lights on in the common areas. We had reservations with a premium room and premium room charge, they would not reduce room rate, even though no services.
The room shook, even though the wind wasn't much . The staff was semi friendly but more concerned about lost revenue due to the lack of bookings. And certainly were not going to lower rates even though most employees were dismissed for the day.
The next morning there was a free breakfast was a warm buffet, but not really good.
The other guests reminded me of people who had a good time there maybe 30 years ago and came back to relive past times. I think the hotel has the same decorations as then.
The whole property is on it's last leg, but was once a upscale destination.
Many very interesting model boats and ships, they must have a small fortune in the displays.

“Miss the old days when dining was superb………….”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2011

Sadly no one seems to be watching the Rocktide Dining Room. We have seen it go downhill for years and years but now it’s getting bad. No consistency whatsoever in the food. Their famous popovers now served cold as ice. Entrees thrown together, salad limp and brown. For a restaurant that has enjoyed a wonderful reputation for years, to see the lack of oversight by the owner and chef is really unacceptable. The owner spent a good deal of money re-vamping the lobby and dining areas, putting in the On the Rocks Bar and she really needs to have her management step-up and upgrade the restaurant experience. So many of the Rocktide guests prefer to eat there, but have been scared off by a bad meal, or a bad review. We remember the “good old days” when the restaurant had a wonderful salad bar, cheese and crackers on the table to greet you and the best steak au poive we have ever had. Yes that was years ago and we have dined at the Rocktide many times since the old amenities faded away, but bad food is just plain old bad food. So sad, so unnecessary. Please bring back a restaurant manager that can handle the kitchen staff as well as the dining room and restore the Rocktide to what it once was!

“A major disappointment!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2011

We have a friend from Florida who used to be the chef here and he urged us to give it a try. We reserved a window table in the upscale part of the restaurant (jackets required). The decor is outstanding with some beautiful ship models, but the upscale dining room is really only a part of the main dining area occupied by a lot of screaming kids and low lifes. The nice paneling and linen table cloths really don't give the place much class.. We were seated by Mary Lou, a charming lady who has been with the restaurant for years. Our server was Ashley who did a good job...We both ordered oysters which were from Glidden Point and excellent. Wine was adequate and reasonably priced .We should have quit right there....The salads were warm, Angela's seafood kabob was a mishmash of not too fresh fish and shell fish. My baked stuffed lobster was starting to shed and there was not much meat in it, The signature popovers were old, cold and mushy...Not worth the $113 including tip.....Friends tell me that this place used to be great but the owners are rarely on the premises and the quality has deteriorated. If you are looking for a good seafood dinner in Boothbay Harbor try someplace else.
