La Quinta Inn New Orleans Veterans / Metairie

Reviewed 5 February 2012

We have stayed at this hotel for the last 20 or 25 years when visiting New Orleans. It is an aging property, but management is working diligently to keep it up. Although the outside temperature was down to 42, our room air conditioner was still set to cooling when we entered the room. After we unpacked, we thought it would be wise to check out the heat function. As it began to heat, it made a really strong odor of heated dust like you get at home when you first turn on your furnace. Unfortunately, this set off the extremely loud room smoke alarm. We turned off the heat, but the smoke alarm kept beeping loudly a couple of times a minute. The front desk clerk offered us another room, which we accepted, but we had arrived in late evening and didn't relish the work of moving to another room. We had to move because the smoke alarm kept making loud noise. We did without heat in our new room, and because of the good bed covers provided did not freeze. This hotel used to give you 4 cups of regular coffee and 4 cups of decaf in their excellent room coffee makers, but now they have put in one cup at a time coffee makers and give you 2 cups of regular and 1 cup of decaf, period. How stingy can you get? There is no half-and-half creamer; only powdered imitation cream for your room coffee. Only the powdered stuff in the lobby too. No grab bars in the shower, a limitation for older guests, but plenty of hot water. I have already made a reservation to stay here again, but I will need to get my coffee elsewhere. If I have any more problems with an over active smoke alarm, I will leave this place for good. That is a shame, because we really like La Quinta.

Room Tip: The furniture store side of the hotel is a lot quieter.

Well, the first room i checked into the air conditioner was LOUD, they quickly moved me, the second one, the phone did not work, they moved me.. finally i got in a room. I had no problems, with the room, very clean and i slept very well. It right by the expressway and about ten miles from the French Quarter, took about 15 minutes... Dennys is right in front, and there is a mall about 7 minutes away and Target, Walmart all in the area.
the ladies who cleaned the room were AWESOME... I am telling you.
Here comes my problem...I asked the night person who was at the desk if i can check out by 3pm and she said absolutely NOT as they are completely sold out... Let the record show, at night on my side, maybe 4 cars...It was strange to me that for a city that needs the tourism to rebuild they are not able to work with you... so now i have to pack and leave early in the morning on my other tours or stay for 2 hours and pay the extra 40 dollars...

Smelly, A/C took forever to cool down, Dirty. When the maid service came by to change our sheets and things they didn't replace the shampoo, only gave us one towel, didn't make our beds and STOLE MY PHONE CHARGER!

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere, not worth the money.

typical La Quinta comfortable beds which is great, but the bathroom smells like bleach and urine. And as time passes it smells more like urine and less like bleach. But the rooms are spacious, big bathrooms, and you can't beat the price. Convenient next to the 10, but pretty far from downtown New Orleans. Also the neighborhood seems a little shady. It's not terrible
