“Convenient but.....”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

We stayed one night....about all I could have handled. They allowed dogs (was not aware) so room next door had barking dog. No I am not a pet hater! Room was not very clean. Building was older so was not expecting 5 star but for the price I paid ($150) for convenience it was NOT WORTH IT! So you get what you paid for can't be said here!! Maybe if I paid less I would have expected less. Front desk service was so, so. Pool was decent and seemed clean. Resteraunt was connected (DENNY'S) horrible service waited over 40 minutes and we came in at midnight......barely any customers. Whole place smelled like smoke in hotel and resteraunt. Shuttle service was nothing short of odd, though again this was a late flight in the hotel took quite a bit of time getting us picked up and then when he did show he did not offer to help with bags (no biggie) but had his music cranked up as if it were his own personal love bus and kept hitting on a passenger (not sure if it was a friend of his or not) in front of my kids. Also bus smelled of smoke.

Room Tip: Check all options before booking that is for sure......

OK service, free breakfast, rooms a little smelly but basically we would book it again for just one night.

We stayed here one night pre-cruise after a late night flight. The shuttle picked us up about 3 minutes after we called for it (at 1:30am) and made the 2 minute drive to the hotel. There were quite a few people checking in, but the lobby area was large enough to be comfortable, and check in was quick and easy. The outside area of the hotel isn't much to look at, being the industrial airport area, but the hotel itself, and the pool area are very nice. The room was also very nice, though located at the very rear of the large property, and somewhat difficult to find. I would advise asking how far of a walk your room is if arriving after dark, and asking to be escorted by security if it is far from the entrance. We had our 5 year old daughter, 4 suitcases and 3 smaller bags, so our hands were full, and during the long walk a group of 5-6 men came out from a corridor and followed us quite a ways. I'm sure it was coincidence, but at the time we were sure we were about to be mugged. Had we known how far our room was, and how dark the corridors were, it would have been better to have been escorted by security. We're not paranoid people, but things happen, and it could have been a scary situation. Our room was very quiet, and we heard no sounds of the airport overnight, and very little hallway noise. The air conditioner did keep us awake, not from being loud, but from just turning on, then shutting off, then turning on again. Beds were comfortable, hot water was plentiful, and the room was clean and modern. We went in search of the free continental breakfast the next morning and could not find it. We asked a custodian, who directed us to get a card from the front desk to take next door to Denny's restaurant. I was a little irritated at this, as we had to wait in line again at the desk, when they could have easily told us this procedure at check in. All staff we encountered were very friendly though, and once we understood the process, we had a nice breakfast. The card entitles you to sit down at a table in Denny's and have complimentary juice, milk, breads, and I think oatmeal, and a very nice fresh fruit cup. Selection is very limited. Or, $2 a person off a meal ordered from the menu. You can order the complimentary items for one person, and menu items for another person, but you cannot order from the menu then add a free item from the continental menu for the same person. Our daughter enjoyed toast, milk and fresh fuit cup (grapes, cantalope, pineapple, strawberries), and DH and I ordered off the menu. With the $2 pp discount, we had a huge breakfast for $10. We were pleasantly surprised. Be advised that it is table service, so it's not a quick grab and go breakfast, and you should tip, as a waitress serves you. We then asked the front desk to call us a taxi, which arrived in 10 minutes. A ride to the French Quarter was $14pp, and yes, they charged for our 5 year old.

I wasn't sure what we were getting into at this hotel based on the lackluster reviews, but we aren't hard to please, and we were very happy here. Cleanliness and friendliness are the important things to us, and this hotel excelled at both. All staff seemed happy and eager to please. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or to recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: This is a very large property, so ask how far room is from front desk. If arriving after dark, ask...

While close to the airport, the hotel is in a semi-industrial area and there are not any nearby resturants other than the Denny's(also very average) next door. The property is showing signs of age and wear, but was clean for the most part. I picked this hotel location to facilitate a business meeting and did not have high expectations. The king bed room was spacious with an adequate work desk, though the internet was a little slow. The bathroom appeared to been updated and was clean. The mattress was swaybacked on one side side and not particularly comfortable on other. The staff was congenial, but most appeared tired and overworked. Airplane and/or railroad noise is quite apparent. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool are about as good as it gets.

Booked this as a last resort through Hotwire. I don't normally book through Hotwire, so I didn't think that the deal I was getting came with strings attached. The strings? Room not ready until an hour after check in time, room at the back of the hotel right next to train tracks, door didn't close all the way, cigarette butts under the bed, sink handle fell off, bathroom vent stuffed with toilet paper...to name a handful. If you absolutely have to stay here, don't get a room coded DD3...that's what they called my room.

Room Tip: Do not accept a room at the back of the hotel. Trains run all night.
