It is a beautiful place. We loved walking the grounds. The barn is spectacular! The disappointment was that you cannot photograph inside the house. I don't understand this at all. I don't mind paying for a tour but not one where I can't record what I've seen for memories later on.

Thank Penny J

I visited the grounds on Sunday afternoon, which are between Fayette Mall and Brannon Crossing off Nicholasville road. Sunday tours start at 1:00 and cost $7/adult. I was the only one on the tour and my guide Susan was dressed to her pantaloons with period clothing. The house was big with high ceilings and was furnished with state of the art 1800s era goods. Tour included house and slave quarters building. The grounds are free to walk around and picnic on. Restrooms available, along with a gift shop. I'm sorry I missed the haunted tour on Friday night.

Waveland is a beautiful historic home with well-kept grounds. It is especially fun when there is a re-enactment or art fair there. There is a great place to picnic and nice playground equipment for young children.

We had an absolute blast with this tour. The gentleman who gave it was informative and very entertaining. The tour was supposed to be an hour but was closer to two.

The stories the tour guide told us all depicted Bryan as a terrible, greedy man, but she punctuated each with "It's a great story" or "He was a great businessman"- I found this very jarring. There was one staircase that was closed off- the guide told us it led to the bedrooms of Bryan's youngest son, Bryan's " personal" slave (ugh) and a bedroom available for travelers (who would pay for a room and then be locked in by Bryan at night and only let out in the morning). Chilling. The guide did refrain from calling this one a "great story", but her obvious affection for and sense of pride in the family was bizarre.

As far as the inevitable old chestnut the guide threw in toward the end- that the slaves "refused to leave" after they were emancipated implying that maybe they didn't have it so bad...I mean...where would they have gone? with what resources? Astounding.

All in all it was a very disheartening and weird experience. But good to know...
