Owner description: Horse Racing's Living History Museum! At Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are winners everyday. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic Michael Blowen, Old Friends cares for more than 135 horses across three states, many of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. A "Rural Hall of Fame", the farm welcomes visitors to get up close and personal with such stars of the turf as Breeders' Cup Champion Gulch, Belmont Stakes winner Sarava, millionaire gelding Arson Squad, and many more. Hear their stories, meet them in person...Er..Horse. Our guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero. Tours are daily at 10:00, 1:00 & 3:00 with a reservation.

We had a very enjoyable time on our tour. Our guide had lots of info and history about the horses. The horses looked to be in good shape and well fed. My only disappointment was we only got to see around 20 of them. They were suppose to have lots to see. All in all a great day

Interesting tour with an excellant guide. They have golf cart if walking is a problem.
Loved seeing and hearing about these retired race horses.

This is a horse farm for retired thoroughbreds. This is our first visit to a horse farm and we enjoyed it immensely. The dedication of the staff and tour guides is outstanding as these well known thoroughbreds from the States and overseas (Japan). The tours are split into two groups when we were there. One group to see the horses and another group for photographers. You will walk a mile or more at a slow pace to visit and feed carrots to a particular horse in their corral. You will get to visit the newly built horse barn. The tour guides is extremely knowledgeable about the horse's history and winnings. The thoroughbreds located here are beautiful and have found a home. The tour was to take an hour or so but ours lasted two hours. We got to meet the Owner and his story about Dream Chase Farm. This definitely a worthwhile stop in the Lexington area.

I had never had a tour on a horse farm in Kentucky before this one, but to get to hear all about oh friends every tired or sick horses was amazing. The place was clean and welcoming, our tour guide Vicky was a wealth of knowledge to tell us all about the horses their names who is friendly who was sent and I was so impressed with the entire community of our friends farm

Wonderful way to spend a few hours and see some beautiful champion horses up close. You are allowed to feed them carrots, but not to pet. Great guide, we were also lucky to meet the founder/owner Michael Blowen and hear the story of Little Silver Charm. So good to see these magnificent animals getting the care and love that they deserve in their later years.
