Owner description: Horse Racing's Living History Museum! At Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are winners everyday. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic Michael Blowen, Old Friends cares for more than 165 horses across three states, many of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. A "Rural Hall of Fame", the farm welcomes visitors to get up close and personal with such stars of the turf as Kentucky Derby and Preakness winners Silver Charm and War Emblem, Belmont Stakes winner Sarava, millionaire gelding Arson Squad, and many more. Hear their stories, meet them in person...Er..Horse. Our guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero. Winter hours at our Kentucky farm November 4th through March 14th - one tour daily at 11:00 only. March 15th through November 4th, tours are daily at 10 am, 1 pm & 3 pm.

The love the staff has for these horses is incredible! Each horse has a story, and a personal connection with our guide as well. The grounds were beautiful, the horses are cared for with a passion that is heart warming. Will be back to visit our favorite, Alphabet Soup soon!

What a beautiful place!! Jane was the best tour guide!! We don't know too much about horse racing but we thoroughly enjoyed our tour and being able to feed the horses carrots was so much fun!! Such a great non-profit organization that cares for all those horses!

The horses are breathtaking and it's wonderful to see them get the retirement they so deserve. Rarely do you get to be up close and personal with thoroughbreds. Tom was a great tour guide-he was very knowledgeable and let us take our time visiting the horses.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit here with my wife and kids (8 and 12). I have been a lot of horse farms around the Lexington area and while they are great, old friends is beyond that with their love for these retired Champions and what they are doing to create a great environment for them.. We found our guides Charlie and his Tuesday Thursday wife Ellen to be very knowledgeable and patient with the guests. Our kids enjoyed being able to see the horses close up and even feed some carrots especially Little Silver Charm and Silver Charm.

We were visiting Lexington and wanted to experience something with horses. But we aren't into horse racing so we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a race track tour. This place is the answer! It wasn't very expensive but worth every penny. Our tour guide was wonderful and her stories and knowledge of each horse was just amazing. Like I said, we aren't big horse people but we loved this tour. What Old Friends is doing for these horses is just heart warming. The tour was about an hour and it was a lot of walking. You also get to feed carrots to each horse. You need to do this tour or at least check them out online. Awesome awesome awesome!!
